The following notes are new info I have just received. There will be more to come.
George Ferris was born in Ireland approximately 1811. He married Elizabeth Ann Weatherhead who was from the Belfast area. She is listed in the census as being 8 years older than George.
They had three children that we know about. Elizabeth was born on August 5th, 1842. Isabella was born on August 1st 1846 and William Charles was born on July 13th, 1847.
The family came to Canada in 1849 during the potato famine years. They settled in Simcoe County, township of Tecumseh in the Tottenham and Holland Landing area north of the present day city of Toronto. They ran a farm and were membersof the Church of England.
Elizabeth married Samuel McMinn in 1863. Samuel was also from Ireland, born on May 18th, 1827 and he came to Canada in 1835.
Elizabeth and Samuel's 10 children were:
William -1864,
Matilda 1866,
Joseph 1868,
Samuel 1869,
Belinda Dec. 13,1870,
Robert 1871,
Isaac dec. 17,1875,
John January 14,1876,
J. Eliza dec. 15,1877 ,
and E. Mary Oct. 18 ,1878.
Elizabeth died March 4, 1932 and Samuel Aug 23, 1903. They are both
buried in St. John's Anglican Cemetery off highway 27 South at Bondhead
in Simcoe County.
