![]() Active Listening With God God Calls Us To Listen Actively. Here are ten aspects to listening actively: 1. Reverently 2. Submissively 3. Carefully 4. Attentively 5. Openly 6. Dependently 7. Confidently 8. Patiently 9. Quietly 10. Expectantly We must come before the Lord expectantly and also this indicates our faith in Him. He will act on our behalf for our good. Expect Him to speak to you. Trust in Him for your total provision. If we are to hear from God, we must be quiet and let Him do the talking. Quietness is essential to listening. If our minds are filled with thoughts, concerns and chatter all day long, you will surely have difficulty listening to that still small voice of God. The best time for quiet is at night or early morning, or even take a nice quiet walk. God sometimes speaks part of His message to us at one certain time and then reveal the other part another time. I know at times the message takes a long time to come, but do not worry because he surely has not forgotten our prayer. He is probably changing and preparing us to hear His message. We must be confident when we listen to God. At times it is not what we want to hear, but God always has the right decisions and changes things in our lives for our good. We must be confident that the Lord is never setting us up for failure. He sets us up for success -- success in His eyes, success for all eternity. Listen to God as if your life depended upon it. When you read the Bible, this is food for your spiritual soul. Come to God with open minds and hearts to receive whatever He chooses to give us. To listen openly means to be willing to hear God correct us as well as comfort us, to hear Him convict us as well as assure us, to hear Him chastise us as well as praise us. Come before the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind the areas of your life that need to be changed. Accept both the positive and the negative things the Lord says to you about yourself. Recognize His words of correction for your good. Pay attention to each word when God speaks. When we truly listen attentively, we don't miss a thing. To listen carefully means to listen for the Holy Spirit continually to conform that the word we are hearing is a genuine word from God. We must put to that test everything we hear. It must line up with the written Word Of God. It must be in keeping with the full example of the life of Christ. When you listen submissively, this means that you will listen with the full intent of obeying. If you obey what you hear, then you take care to understand how the Lord wants you to do something. At times we may not understand how or why God is working in a certain way. Submitting to God's word is the only way you will ever find meaning and purpose in life. Don't let a spirit of rebellion impair your ability to listen. A reverent heart stands in awe of God. To listen reverently means to listen with wonder -- first that God would speak to us, and then that God would invite us to be a part of His plans and purposes. Never, never take God for granted. You should exist to worship, serve and be a friend to God. He is the Lord and you are the follower. ****Listening With Ears To Hear**** Active listening requires that you make these declarations in the inner spirit by faith as you listen to God: 1.
