Bit by Bit
Bit by Bit is a 1997-1998 Hoosier Nominee for Kindergarten through Third Grade. This story comes from a Russian Yiddish folk song Mr. Sanfield's grandmother brought with her when she came to America. It is a "circle" story which can be heard in our house .... "and bit by bit, he wore it out!" Zundel is a poor tailor who had a nice long winter coat. "Bit by bit, he wore it out." This made Zundel very sad. He saved money and bought some cloth to make a new coat. It had red threads and gold threads and blue threads and green threads. Zundel wore the coat all the time "and bit by bit, he wore it out." He was very sad, but there was enough of the coat to make a jacket. Zundel loved this jacket and he wore it and wore it and wore it until "bit by bit, he w-o-r-e it out." The jacket became a vest, the vest became a . . . . and so on. This book is a great story for parents who read to their children, for beginning readers, and even for big brothers or sisters who read to smaller children. Even little babies will like the sing-song of the story being read out loud! ![]() This book is a great gift for children. The book is only available in hardback, but it is a book your children will read and read and read. It can be purchased on line through Amazon's secured order site!
