James: OBITUARY: HORNELL--James "Pete" Houghtaling, Sr., 79, of DeGroff Road, Nunda, RD1, died Saturday (Aug 24, 1985) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a short illness. A native of Hornell, where he had resided for most of his life, he moved to the town of Nunda eight years ago. He was employed as a car inspector and derrick engineer for the former Erie-Lackawanna Railway Co., until his retirement in 1971 after 48 years of service. He was a member of Hornell Lodge No. 210, Loyal Order of Moose; and Hornell Aerie No. 2640, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Laura Houghtaling; two daughters, Elnora Watson of Fulton and Evelyn Gross of Nunda; one son, James Jr. of Hornell, RD 3; seven grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Robertson Funeral Home in Hornell, where a service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell. A Loyal Order of Moose service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Southern Tier Chapter, American Heart Association, 530 W. RHUDE (Canisteo)--Mable M. Rhude, 88, of county Route 29, died early today (Dec. 18, 1996) at the Hornell Gardens. Born in Alfred, Dec. 1, 1908, a daughter of Harvey and Nancy Collins Houghtaling, she had resided her entire life in the Hornell-Canisteo area. She has been employed for several years for the former Totton's Grocery in Canisteo and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo. She was predeceased by her son, Charles H. Baker in 1982; three brothers, Alvero Houghtaling, Ronald Houghtaling and Clifford Houghtaling; two sisters, Grace Drew and Laura Houghtaling; and a step-daughter, Shirley Crowley. Surviving are one daughter, Nancy (George) Sanford of Hornell; one son, Ernest (Jackie) Baker of Canisteo; three sisters, Margaret Coler of Hornell, Fern Wambold of Nunda and Gertrude (Paul) Blanchard of Caledonia; three brothers, Earl (Delores) Houghtaling, Richard Houghtaling, and Arnold (Florence Houghtaling, all of Hornell; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Fullforth of Rochester and Gerri Lynn Muroski of Ohio; two stepsons, Duane (Marian) Rhude of Canisteo and John (Bonnie) Rhude of Nevada; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. N.Y. Alvero died 30-Jul-1969, Pulteney, Steuben Co., N.Y. OBITUARY: PULTENEY--Alvero O. Houghtaling, 56 of Pulteney died Wednesday at his home. He was born in Freemont and resided most of his life in Hornell. He was employed by the Cleveland Truck Line as a truck driver for more than 20 years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nina Walruth Houghtaling; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Medrek of Prattsburg and Mrs. Sharon Puffer of Hornell; a son, Nelson of Prattsburg; his mother, Mrs. Nancy Houghtaling of Canisteo; six sisters, Mrs. James Houghtaling of Hornell, Mrs. Mable Baker of Canisteo, Mrs. George Coller of Arkport, Mrs. George Wambold of Nunda, Mrs. James Drew of Rochester and Mrs. Paul Blanchard of Caledonia; and five brothers, Arnold, Clifford Richard, and Earl of Hornell and Roland of Bath. Nina: OBITUARY - Prattsburg - Nina May Houghtaling, 61 of Hammondsport, died today, Sept. 2, 1980 in Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, Bath following a long illness. She was born in the Town of Urbana May 19, 1919, the daughter of Benjamin and Florence Fisher Walruth. She was married to Alvero Houghtaling who died in 1969. She was a life resident of the area and was a member of the Prattsburg and Hammondsport senior citizen groups. For nine years she resided in Prattsburg, moving to Hammondsport in 1978. She was a former member of League of Mercy women's group of the Salvation Army, Hornell. Surviving are one son, Nelson of Prattsburg; two daughters, Mrs John Medrek of Prattsburg RD 1 and Shannon Puffer of Prattsburg; one brother Benjamin Walruth, Jr. of Hammondsport; three sisters, Viola Robinson, Louella Hoad and Illa Hoad, all of Hammondsport, and two grand-children. Friends may call at the Bottoni Funeral Home in Prattsburg Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be there Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Clair Statham officiating. OBITUARY: Richard F. Houghtaling, 75, of 98 Cedar St., died Monday, April 13, 1998 at home. He retired from custodial staff at the New York State Armory in Hornell after 34 years of service. Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Rodriquez of Covina, Calif., Linda Chace of Virginia Beach, Va., Daisy Quant of Arkport, Etta Teribury of Jasper and Ella Howard of Canisteo; four sons, Harvey Houghtaling of Andover and Lee Houghtaling Mike Houghtaling and Joe Houghtaling, all of Hornell; three sisters, Fern Wambold of Nunda, Margaret Collier of Hornell and Gertrude Blanchard of Caledonia; two brothers, Earl Houghtaling and Arnold Houghtaling, both of Hornell. Houghtaling, 58, of 8 Howell St., died Dec. 15, 1985 at his home after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 19, 1927 in Hornell to Harvey and Nancy Collins Houghtaling. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He was a former driver for Penn Yann Express and R.C. Billings Co., and a member of the Hammondsport Moose Lodge and Bath VFW Post. Surviving are his wife, the former Thelmas Seager; two sons, David and Dale Houghtaling, both of Bath; two daughters, Diann Lathrop and Donna Storms, both of Bath; four brothers, Arnold, Richard and Earl Houghtaling, all of Hornell, and Clifford Houghtaling of Bath; five sisters, Laura Houghtaling and Fern Wambold, both of Nunda, Mable Rhude of Canisteo, Margaret Collier of Arkport, and Gertrude Blanchard of Caledonia; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours and services were held at the Seager-Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Statha officiating. Burial was in Nonandaga Cemetery. Military honors were conferred.
