2. John² Chipman (Elder) (Thomas¹) was born in Brinsfiltae, England 1615/21. John died 4/7/1708 in Barnstable or Sandwich, MA.

He married twice. He married Hope Howland in Plymouth or Sandwich, MA, 1646. Hope was born in Plymouth or Sandwich, MA 8/30/1629. She was the daughter of John Howland (Pilgrim) and Elizabeth Tilley. Hope died 1/8/1683 in Barnstable, MA, at 53 years of age. Her body was interred Lothrop Hill. He married Ruth Sargent 1684. Ruth was born in Charlestown, MA 10/25/1642. She was the daughter of William Sargent and Sarah unknown. She married Richard Bourne in Sandwich, MA, 7/2/1677. Ruth died 10/4/1713 in Sandwich, MA, at 70 years of age.

John Chipman (Elder) and Hope Howland had the following children:

6 iv. Ruth Chipman was born before 4/7/1682, the first event for which there is a recorded date. She married Eleazer Crocker 4/7/1682. Eleazer was born in Barnstable, MA 6/21/1650. He was the son of William Crocker (Deacon) and Alice unknown. He married Mercy Phinney in Barnstable, MA, 1/26/1715. Eleazer died 9/6/1723 in Barnstable, MA, at 73 years of age. 7 v. Bethiah Chipman was born before 11/12/1702, the first event for which there is a recorded date. Bethiah died 11/12/1702. She married twice. She married Shubael Dimmock. She married Timothy Dimmock.

8 vi. John Chipman was born on (birth date unknown).

9 vii. Elizabeth Chipman was born in Plymouth, MA or Plympton, MA 6/24/1647. Elizabeth died 1712. She married Hosea Joyce 1676.

10 viii. Hope Chipman was born in Barnstable, MA 8/31/1652. She married twice. She married John Huckins 8/10/1670. John was born in Barnstable, MA 1649. John died 1678. She married Jonathan Cobb in Barnstable, MA, 3/1/1682/3. Jonathan was born in Barnstable, MA 4/10/1660. He was the son of Henry Cobb (Elder) and Sarah Hinckley. Jonathan died 8/5/1728 in Middleboro, MA, at 68 years of age.

11 ix. Hannah Chipman was born in Plymouth, MA or Plympton, MA 1/14/1658/9. Hannah died 11/4/1696 at 38 years of age. She married Thomas Huckins 5/1/1680.

12 x. Samuel Chipman was born in Barnstable, MA 1661. He married Sarah Cobb in Barnstable, MA, 12/27/1686. Sarah was born in Barnstable, MA 3/10/1663. She was the daughter of Henry Cobb (Elder) and Sarah Hinckley. Sarah died 1/8/1742/3 at 78 years of age.

13 xi. Mercy Chipman was born in Plymouth, MA or Plympton, MA 2/6/1668.

14 xii. Desire Chipman was born in Plymouth or Sandwich, MA 2/26/1672/4. Desire died 3/28/1705 in Barnstable or Sandwich, MA, at 33 years of age. She married Melatiah Bourne in Barnstable or Sandwich, MA, 2/23/1692/3. Melatiah was born in Barnstable or Sandwich, MA 1/12/1673/4. He was the son of Shearjasub Bourne and Bathsheba Skiff. Melatiah died 11/24/1742 in Barnstable or Sandwich, MA, at 69 years of age. (See Melatiah Bourne for the continuation of this line.)
