Spoons
The object of the game is simple.....be fast, and wear protection! No really, you want to be the first to get four matching cards, but even more importantly, get a spoon in your hand LOL
You can play with as many people as you want, but works best if you can sit around in a circle and all reach into the middle.
Items needed:
Enough spoons for all but one person playing. So if you have 7 people, you need 6 spoons.
Card deck. One group of 4 like cards for each person playing. Can be 4 aces, 4 twos, 4 threes, whatever, kings, queens...just so there is a set of 4 matching cards for each person playing.
Instructions:
Place the spoons in a circle in the middle of all players, an even distance from all players. There might be some argument on this point, so it's nice to have a least one non biased person do a judgment call on spoon placement! Shuffle the cards and deal them out to all players. Everyone should have 4 cards if you did it right so far. Each person gets their matching cards together in their hand. The dealer gets to say "GO" then everyone discards a non-matching, or non-wanted card to the player on their left, face down. So everyone should have a card to pick up from the player on their right. You pick that up, see if you need it, if so, keep that one and discard some other card in your hand to the person on your left again. Every player should be picking up a card from the right, and discarding one to the player on the left. Keep a watchful eye on those spoons also. As soon as someone has four of one kind ..4 kings, or aces, or 4 of whatever, then they get a spoon. This is everyone's clue to GRAB a spoon so your not the one left without a spoon. The person left without a spoon gets the first letter of the word 'spoons' When you get all the letters, SPOONS, you are out of the game. Now there is some strategy to this. If you can tell right off you're not going to be getting matches any time soon, than it's best to just keep passing on cards without trying to match them up, but keep a watch on the spoons for the person who grabs for one. Once someone grabs for it, everyone else can, whether they have a match or not. Only one person, the person who grabs a spoon first, has to have four matching cards. Some people are real sneaky about getting their matches and getting their spoon. You might not even notice, till everyone starts flying for them. Depending on what types of personalities you are playing with, you can get into some pretty good wrestling matches over a spoon. If a person has one in their hand already you cannot take it from them, but if you both go for the same spoon at the same time then you can fight for the same one. Or if one happens to fly by you ,you can try for that one also. This can be a dangerous game. Our family seems to like to win, so there has been skin lost over this game! hahaha. If you have any questions, just e-mail the spoonmaster with them and we'll try and answer them.
Thanks, and happy Spooning!
