[Please note: This show was alittle difficult to transcribe due to many background noises (at certain times) and some very fast talking by the Mr. McConnell. But I've done my best to be as accurate as possible. Enjoy!]

Doug: There's one more special but lovely part of Fremont's legacy. The graceful Kristi Yamaguchi, whose won an Olympic gold medal and our hearts ice skating all over the world.

[Setting: Outdoors, on a very sunny day by Lake Elizabeth. Kristi is dressed casually in a black, short sleeved, scoop necked shirt with white shorts. Her hair is up in a ponytail.]

Doug: And Kristi was raised right here, in Fremont.

Kristi: Right here in Fremont.

Doug: Right there, Lake Elizabeth. This is it.

Kristi: Yes

Doug: This is your neighborhood.

Kristi: Part of it, yes, growing up.

Doug: It's great. It's great to see you and you're still skating all over the place.

Kristi: Right. Skating all over, throughout the U.S. and sometimes Canada as well.

Doug: And you have a foundation that you created too. The Always Dream Foundation. What do you do with that foundation?

Kristi: Well, with this foundation, our main objective is to, you know, help children in need. And we work with alot of children's organizations here in the Bay Area. And you know, help them with their needs. Whether it's school supplies, computers, or clothes - whatever.

Doug: You name it, you're there.

Kristi: You name it.

Doug: Supporting women battling breast cancer and all the rest. We're going to leave a website in just a minute.

Kristi: Great.

Doug: To show people who want to get involved with the foundation, how they can do that. We want to talk about Fremont, for just a second.

Kristi: Sure! I'd love to.

Doug: You were raised here. Your dad's a dentist here in town.

Kristi: Right.

Doug: Where there's lots of great things to go. And you're going to tell us about 3 things. One of them is antiquing over in Niles.

Kristi: Right. I grew up, just in the town of Niles. Outside, I went to Niles elementary school. Right there the historic building. And just down the street is Niles Road. It's kinda the area where Charlie Chaplin actually filmed some of his first silent films. So it has a really neat little history. And quite a few places for tea, I guess you're talking about (laughs)...

Doug: And it was Thyme For Tea.

Kristi: Right. Thyme For Tea.

Doug: What was it you liked most about Thyme For Tea?

Kristi: Well, it kinda takes you back in time. You just sit there; it's a really quaint atmosphere.
And you have the tea -- afternoon tea -- and it's all set up. And it's just kind of a feminine thing, maybe alittle bit, maybe more. But it's fun

[As Kristi speaks, shots of the place are shown. The outside, inside, people drinking tea...]

Doug laughs and says: It's kind of a "Wild West" town

Kristi (laughing along): Yes, yes.

Doug: So it's for men and women.

Kristi: Right.

Doug: Right here in Fremont, you got Leatherby's Ice Cream. And you've been going to Leatherby's since you were a little kid.

Kristi laughs and says: Alot of fun memories there, that's for sure! Obviously as a kid, you loved ice cream and there's no other place that serves bigger sundaes than Leatherby's. [A close-up shot of a huge ice cream sundae is shown. It must have had at least 4-5 different thick layers (or scoops) of ice cream. It was also drenched in chocolate syrup, with a generous amount of whipped cream, and topped with a single cherry.] So that was always fun. So check out Leatherby's and then a movie or something while you're in town.

Doug: (laughs) So, tea in Niles, ice cream in Fremont at Leatherby's and then right here at Lake Elizabeth. Lovely spot. Kind of a place for people to gather for all sorts of recreation activities. And you roller blade right here.

Kristi: Yes! It's been alot of fun. There's a trail that actually goes all around the lake. It's a couple miles long and on a beautiful day like this, it's great to get outside, get some fresh air and exercise too.

Doug: You know how to roller blade? You're okay on those roller blades?

Kristi: I'm okay!

Doug: Skating here, would it be all right?

Kristi: You know, I wouldn't say I'm as on the roller blades as I am on the ice, but it's still a lot of fun and a great way to spend time with friends or family; whoever.

Doug: Well, I think you're looking awfully graceful and balletic on roller blades. And I was going to go rollerblading with you --

Kristi laughs

Doug: -- but I was going to be hugging a tree the whole time, while you're off doing some graceful moves.

Kristi: Well, maybe you can follow me in a paddle boat or something.

They laugh

Kristi: Paddle around the lake

Doug: That's right. There are paddle boats here and you can enjoy the lake that way. Families come down here to picnic.

Kristi: Alot of picnics. I remember having my sixth grade picnic here. And having alot of fun out on the play areas, and everything around the course. And I don't know, alot of water activities.

Doug: Alot of water activities. We're closing for tonight. Kristi, thanks alot. You got a great town.

Kristi: Yes, thanks. I love it here - it's great.
