A Dream Come True
For alittle girl who had to wear casts to correct deformed feet, winning an Olympic gold medal in figure skating might have seemed liked an impossible dream. But Kristi Yamaguchi wasn't afraid to dream, and she made it come true, earning the gold on the 1992 Olympic Games.
Kristi tells what it was like in her book, Always Dream, which describes her early fascination with the sport of ice skating, the grueling pre-dawn practice sessions, and the thrill of competition - and victory.
But first there were obstacles to overcome, like the malformation of her feet that put her in braces and casts as a toddler just learning to walk, shyness that sometimes left her in tears, and later the difficulty in breaking through to a firstplace finish at the highest levels. But her determination and work ethic won out at the end, showing that success is possible for anyone willing to work for it. Kristi's story can inspire you to overcome your own challenges.
