I didn't know ahead of time that Kristi was going to be at the Embarcadero yesterday, otherwise, I could have taken the day off to see her practice and watch her show that evening. Oh, well, maybe next year. Here's the run down of what was said throughout the show:

Mark Pitta is at the Kristi Yamaguchi Ice Rink at the Embarcadero Center where lots of kids are getting ready to skate or are skating already over here. We'll show you how you can come down here today to meet Kristi. She's giving a free performance this evening. She'll be on our show to give a live performance also later. And we'll be back with more on Morning on 2 and Kristi.

Frank Somerville: Back to Kristi Yamaguchi skating rink and Kristi Yamaguchi.

Mark Pitta: You don't play hockey here do you Frank?

Frank: No, but I did go skating there a couple of weeks ago. It's cold, right?

Mark talks to Kristi: Yeah, it's funny. It's like Kristi, yesterday, it was nice-no wind. You show up with the ice, because it's ice, it's freezing.

Kristi: I guess so.

Mark: Thanks for being here. You're going to do a free show today.

Kristi: We're doing a holiday show tonight with some local skaters. It should be a lot of fun. And we have a couple of fun-a cute little story line. It's actually with two penguins, who are the holiday mascots for Mervyn's of California. And we're doing a little story with that.

Mark: Oh, I love penguins. We're here at the Embarcadero Center. We'll tell you about some of the best seats. They have bleachers set up. The best views are the hotels and office buildings. As you can see, kids are already on the ice. When we come back, we'll talk more with you and where we can see you.

Kristi: Great!

Mark: We're are the Embarcadero Center at the Kristi Yamaguchi Ice Rink. Now, how long has this been going on Kristi?

Kristi: This is my 3rd year where I've been involved with it.

MP: Now, here to the left is a guy that we all know, Don Bleu.

Kristi: Oh sure. You'll recognize the voice at least.

Mark: A question I've always wanted to ask you. In sports, they need good field conditions to play. When you get to the rink, when you're traveling, and say, this is bad ice. Do you have some places you skate at with bad ice?

Kristi: Oh, yeah, definitely. It depends on, I think, some rinks are colder that others. If the ice is too cold, it's really hard and brittle. It's just sometimes not kept up with maintenance and chilly. You like nice even surface out there.

Mark: How was the ice on A Golden Moment out there? We're taking a look at that show right now. (They're showing Kristi skating her program from A Golden Moment.)

Kristi: Great. Actually, you know, Oakland always has pretty good ice. And it was nice. Everything worked out really well that night.

Mark: And you had the show where you train at the Oakland Ice Rink? Right?

Kristi: No. It was at the Oakland Arena.

Mark: Yeah, that's right, the Oakland Arena. You travel so much now, because you told me earlier that September to February is your big season.

Kristi: Basically. We start rehearsal for SOI in September and other events happen throughout the fall. And once Christmas comes around, we're on the road.

Mark: And Don, your schedule. Wow!

Don Bleu: You know what. My schedule is getting to be more like your schedule. It starts early and goes long.

Mark: Right. The fun part about today though is that at 5:30, you can see Kristi skate for free here at the EC. Bleachers are set up. Is this the first time you're doing this show?

Kristi: No, this is 3rd time actually.

Mark: So everytime they have this, you do a show. Everybody knows about it.

Kristi: Yeah, this is something for Christmas. Something for the shoppers, for the people who work at the Embarcadero.

Don: It's actually the same ice. They just cover it up during the summer time here and then open this up and here it is.

Mark: I was wondering why I fell that one day.

Kristi: Laughs

Mark: You also have other shows coming up-the Target stars show. When does that happen?

Kristi: We'll be in Oakland on Friday, January 7th and San Jose, January 9th, Sunday.

Mark: Last week, I spoke to Brian Boitano and I was talking about when you have an Olympic sport as ice skating is or figure skating is, it's an advantage from people who run the 4-40 or do javelin. They don't have a career after the Olympics.

Kristi: Oh yeah, we're pretty lucky. So, it's really nice because it's a performance sport and a lot artistic side can lend itself to other areas.

Mark: I know your're doing a show at 5:30 but will you do a performance for us later today?

Kristi: Sure, I'll give you a sneak preview.

Mark: Alright. Don, are you going to be out there?

Don: I'll be ready for it. We actually was-Kristi was involved with the secret Santa this morning. We're having a beautiful day and holiday season.

Mark: We'll have more with Kristi and maybe Don too.

TC: I always enjoy seeing Kristi Yamaguchi skate. She's so graceful.

Mark: Now Frank, whenever you see her at the Oakland Ice Rink, do you ever speak to her?

Frank: Yeah, I did once. I said Hi.

Mark: You didn't check her into the boards, did you? Like you did that 73 year-old man last year? (They are showing Kristi in the background skating around, warming up.)

Frank: It's kind of cool. I walked in there and there was Brian Boitano and Kristi Yamaguchi. I did a double take. You don't expect to see Olympic Gold medal winners when you walk into a local ice rink.

Mark: Right. She's actually right behind me warming up, limbering up for her performance later on our show and of course getting ready for the show here at the EC at 5:30 pm which is free to the public so you should come on down. So when we come back Kristi will skate.

Mark: I'm here at the EC with Kristi Yamaguchi, limbering up. I was going to ask you how long do you like to limber up? Do you stiffen up after too long?

Kristi: Oh yeah. It's usually a lot longer than I have this morning. But it's just a preview so I won't be doing everything full out. (Laughs)

Mark: Right. At the show at 5:30, how long are your routines?

Kristi: Both of them are-I have 2 numbers and they're about 2 minutes long.

Mark: And you're going to be doing one of those for us?

Kristi: Yes.

Mark: OK, when we come back, we'll see Kristi skate and we'll review the routine for the 5:30 show.

They show Kristi skating to Amy Grant singing, "It's the most wonderful time of the year" song. Kristi starts out by wiping off one of her skating blades and tossing the ice into the air. She only does 2 jumps (a single and a double), different position spins, a spiral, and another spin.

Mark: Wow, that was so smooth.

They ended the show with them talking with Santa. He's from the Salvation Army's Secret Santa and with the help of K101 and Kristi, she is helping them to match all the Secret Santa requests today.
