I just got back a few hours ago and I am still floating on air because the show was so awesome. My friends and I had so much fun. It was the first ice show for all of us. Everything was so perfect... the ice, the lights, the sets, the music, the skating, and the performers.
.....
Act One:
Opening Remarks: Kristi Yamaguchi (she talked about why and how she did the show and focused on breast cancer awareness)
Opening Medley (which was "I Feel Pretty" and "Maria") from West Side Story: Oakland East Bay Symphony
Introduction of the Golden Moment Cast (on the projection screen): Kristi
Yamaguchi
"Love Theme" from Romeo and Juliet: Kristi Yamaguchi performing to
the Oakland East Bay Symphony (in which she fell on a jump and then they
reshot the sequence during the intermission for TV)
Special Introduction: Brian Boitano (introduced Taylor Dayne)
Solo Performance "Naked Without You": Taylor Dayne
"Love Will Lead You Back": Rosalynn Sumners performing with Taylor Dayne
A Message of Hope: Peggy Fleming (she did not skate all night... we thought she would. She talked about her experience and fight and survival with breast cancer. Also most of the women in the audience stood up as breast cancer survivors.)
Solo Performance "Hope", dedication to breast cancer awareness: Keiko Matsui
"Night Hawk's Dream": Ekaterina Gordeeva performing to Keiko Matsui and the Oakland East Bay Symphony (a very beautiful yet haunting piece by Keiko... and an enigmatic performance by Katia (my favorite skater).... the music of Keiko flowed into Katia's skating... it was unforgettable. Katia fell too... but she didn't come back to reskate that part for TV)
A Message of Hope: Dr. Ernie Bodias (he lobbied for the breast cancer awareness stamp which you can purchase now at the post office. 7 cents goes to breast cancer awareness and since it came out, $10M has been raised. The stamp has the Roman goddess Diana taking a bow from her quiver to fight breast cancer and a rainbow represents that breast cancer affects everyone)
"You're Still the One": Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler (we joked that Shania must be backstage.... but it was a recording... their death spiral seemed a bit tame... but a very cool performance)
"Carmen": Katarina Witt performing to the Oakland East Bay Symphony (breathtaking and her outfit was very fitting and muy caliente!)
A Message of Hope: Don Bleu from K101 (Don Bleu and Kristi are very good friends... they have appeared in K101 commercials and she has used the radio station to promote A Golden Moment. He is a popular morning DJ in the SF area. Also he told us that he lost his mom to breast cancer 2 years to the day after she had survived it 20 years earlier. He also lost his sister at the age of 44. His younger sister is now scared and confused.)
Solo Performance "Nella Fantasia": Sarah Brightman (just beautiful and awesome... if you don't know she played Christine on Broadway's Phantom of the Opera. It was weird tho she seemed like she lip synched... but I'm not sure... she was nonetheless beautiful and she was ravishing.)
"Second Element": Tara Lipinski performing to Sarah Brightman (MESMERIZING ... Tara was so beautiful on the ice. I loved it so much.... Sarah was definitely singing this one... and watching them both together put me to tears! Tara and Sarah.... so much worth this entire night... I didn't want it to end!)
Intermission
Act Two:
Solo Performance "Walls of the Cave": Keiko Matsui and the Oakland East Bay Symphony
"Tango": Ekaterina Gordeeva
A Message of Hope: Faith Fancher from KTVU Fox TV (she is a breast cancer survivor... yet she has once again found another lump which has been removed. she in now in chemotherapy and is positive she will win again!)
"After All These Years": Rosalynn Sumners performing to Anne Cochran and the Oakland East Bay Symphony
"Rescue Me" : Katarina Witt performing to Bell Book and Candle (riveting!)
A Message of Hope: Scott Hamilton (The Funny Man was sweet! You could tell he didn't want to leave the stage! He is a cancer survivor.. but not breast cancer... :)
"Tell It to My Heart": Tara Lipinski performing to Taylor Dayne (she is cute as a button! i am proud to say she landed all her jumps! YAY! She is so awesome!)
"A Time to Say Goodbye": Kristi Yamaguchi performing to Sarah Brightman (Kristi fell again.. not sure if they will reshoot for TV)
Check Presentation: Mervyn's California and Always Dream Foundation
"Somewhere" (from West Side Story): Oakland East Bay Symphony, Piedmont Children's Choir and the entire Golden Moment Cast (Kristi, Tara, Katia, Katarina, Roz) (You have to see this yourself! They looked like swans on water... so beautiful!)
There was so much to see and hear tonight! I did my best to tell you about it. You can see it for yourself as well because they were taping for two telecasts. One for a KTVU special which will air in December in the SF area. And the second one will air on the Lifetime Cable Network... tho I am not sure what day.
Well... it was a Golden Moment and I will NEVER forget tonight......
