6. What a Wonderful World
ACT I
1. Wonderful World
Stobe's Nanafushi by Kodo: The Cast performed a group number. Introductions were made.
Bailamos by Enrique Iglesias: Tara, Ilia, Jenni and Todd did individual performances. The crowd really liked the pairs and showed it with great applause all evening. Some of the moves and throws were very well done and the crowd appreciated the talent. That's good coming from a Los Angeles crowd that would usually be Star-Eyed.
Never by Leon Now: Lu Chen. LuLu's $ex appeal is what keeps the men in the audience on the edge of their seats. I can see around me that most guys are there just becuase they are with a wife or girlfriend, but when LuLu steps on the ice, they seem to pay more attention.
Demain by Les Nubians: Kristi and Katia performed together in this number. Great speed and Kristi's techincal level was more difficult than any of the ladies. Kristi was doing double axels and 3Lutz's all night long. She steps up into the axel real well. Almost as good as Roz's. Katia singled a lot of her jumps.
Swingtown by The Steve Miller Band: Scott, LuLu, Steven and Bechke&Petrov. BP were by far a crowd favorite. Their acrobatic moves really woooooed the crowd all night.
Rag-GIDON-time by Gidon Kremer: Kurt Browning's clown number. Very well done.
Ghost by Bande Original du Film: Roca and Sur put on some $exy moves for the crowd. A lot of positions that would be interesting if they were behind closed doors. LOL
Ribbon by Franz Liszt: Katia's ribbon routine. Crowd didn't seem to respond to the neat effects of the ribbon, but they always gave Katia great applause.
Blues for Narada by Gary Moore: Ilia had a lackluster performance. He doubled about 4 of his 6 jumps. His jumping splits got a lot of altitude and wooos from the crowd.
Baby Did A Bad Thing by Chris Issak: Meno and Sand. One of my favorites. Jenni's red hair is just mesmerizing. The death drop is the best in the business.
Genie In A Bottle by Christina Aguilera: Tara still received lukewarm applause, but I felt she got better applause then last years SOI/COI stints. She did a 3flip, 3Toe and a 3Loop all landed clean and smooth. I expected the 3Sal instead of the 3Loop, but she glided in on both edges and I clapped loudly to see her 3loop. A few of us clapped during her very fast sit spin. I just love the speed and low to the ice on that spin. May I just add, Tara's all grown up now and she's looks even taller than Kristi now. Tara's no longer the smallest woman on the tour.
2. Old Friends
You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon: Scott's nerdy number. Very well done with a lot of double axels. Parital standing ovation at the end.
Me And Julio by Paul Simon: Kurt and Steven joined Scott on the ice. Scott stayed on the ice for a long time. I bet he was tired afterwards. Kurt and Steve played buddies wearing the same style sweater. Almost seemed g@yish, but it was a friendly type of acting.
Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel: Katia enteredand Kurt and Steven exited leaving Scott and Katia on the ice. I can't recall what Katia was doing.
The Sound of Silence by S&G: The 3 pairs came on the ice and Katia exited. They did a bunch of pair skating with Scott intermingling. It was almost like Scott wasn't suppose to be on the ice. I didn't understand the choreography of Scott's role in the series, but I'm guessing it has to do with his memories of life in skating.
Bridge over Troubled Waters by S&G: Everyone exited and Kristi did a number on her own. Very well done.
Old Friends by S&G: Scott, Kristi, Katia, Kurt and Steven. The fivesome did a group number.
Intermission
ACT II
3. Club AC
Luv Me Luv Me by Shaggy: Tara, Ilia, Steven, Petrov and Sur. This opened after the intermission, so while people were milling to get to their seats, Kurt was sleeping on the zebra colored couch on the ice. He couldn't get comfortable and was moving around like a toss-n-turn night of sleep.
Even though they weren't on the agenda, Kristi and LuLu came out with the four men and it was like two women fighting for the attention of 4 men. Kurt was just a nosy person they pretended to ignore. He left the ice leaving the four guys fighting over two women on the couch. Then....... Tara skates on the ice and the four men leave Kristi and LuLu on the couch and start skating with Tara as if she just stole all the men. Kristi and LuLu acted catty on the couch.
It's About That Walk by Prince: Steven did a number on his own filled with triple jumps. He steped out of one, but did well and got plenty of applause.
It's Not Right by Whitney Houston: LuLu came out with Steven on the ice. She played hard to get probably because they stint with Tara earlier.
Jazzin' by Kristine W: Kristi was on the couch all the
time since the intermission and she finally got off the couch and played
a two on one tease with Steven. They eventually got Steven tied up on the
couch and left him. Funny ending for the women.
4. La Valtz
He's Got A Way by Bernadette Peters: Tara came out looking very innocent in a white dress.
La Valse Moderne by L'Orcheste Moderne: Kurt came out in his nerdy outfit. Tara was looking innocent and they toyed with each other in a shy/coyish fashion. Tara plays a great shy girl. She puts her hands behind her back and drops the chin down a bit with a slight coyish pout. I liked this number the best because it was very romantic and yet innocent respecting Tara's age.
Czardas by Leahy: Bechke and Petrov put on the performance of the night. Their moves on the ice were top notch. The crowd really liked the over-the-shoulder moves. Probably the loudest applause all night.
5. Di Bolero
Casi Un Bolero by Ricky Martin: Meno/Sand and Roca/Sur did a
number that you couldn't watch
both at the same time. They were constantly at opposite ends of the
ice rotating around. It was like getting a dosage of pairs and dance at
the same time.
Si Tu No Estas by Rosana Casi Un Bolero by Ricky Martin: Katia and Ilia did a pairs number that only a few of the audience realized what they were seeing. It was in my opinion the most emotional and happy performance of the night. Katia started off as a lonely wonan on the ice missing her Sergie. She seemed distant to Ilia on the ice but eventually warmed up to him. They went into side-by-side spiral and a few people clapped realizing it was a new beginning for Katia to do a move such as that without Sergie. I clapped loudly on the spiral and loudly on the first lift sequence. In the end, the pose was classic G&G with the feeling of love in the air.
Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry: Kurt did a happy fun paced number to the fun music.
Smooth by Santana: Kristi did her solo number that got good applause.
Baseball Cap by Faithless: Ilia never ceases to amaze me. Last year, he did the skate noises number and this year he did a slick number with a baseball cap. He tossed it, flipped it and did wonders with a simple baseball cap as a prop. Very entertaining and his triples were on for this number. He must have been disappointed with the doubles earlier and he delivered a handful of fast and high triples.
American Woman by Lenny Kravitz: Tara did well on this program and looked great in the American Flag top with black leather hot pants. For some reason, I don't like the squealchyness of the song. It's very heavy metalish for my taste and I think that along with seeing this program on TV several times took the moment away from me. The crowd seemed to enjoy the music, but I think Tara got a lukewarm applause at the end.
Don Quixote by Minkus: Scott's finale in a very femenate blue ballet outfit. He made it humorous by putting extra padding in his tights and alluded to it periodially during the program. It was funny.
6. What a Wonderful World
What a Wonderful World by Wong: The Cast except Scotty came out in the orange outfits. Scott joined later after changing from the blue tights to the closing outfit. A group number well done and the final bows and goodbyes.
