Review (and encounter!) by Eric

I saw Kristi perform at her San Francisco ice rink at the Embarcadero, along the waterfront. She did her usual yearly ice show, and it was FANTASTIC! She was sweet, lovely, talented as ever -- and the highlight was her two solo numbers: one, skating to Blue Christmas, and the other, her standard, skating to Amy Grant's Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

It was very cold, and yet --trooper that she is-- she had on her cute, but skimpy costumes on! The first solo featured a bare-midriff outfit (she has a cute navel! :)  and then, a backless outfit. The ice rink permits a closeness not usually available --she skated at times within a few feet of me... :)

After the performance, guarded by a few cops, she left the rink. But not before I spoke to her. "Hi Kristi!" I said, and she replied, "Hi, How ya doing!??". Shook her hand too. A big thrill for me...

Let me give you a few more "formal" details about the show I saw...

It was formally entitled, "Always Dream Foundation presents Home of the Holidays." It was a story-telling ice show "for the whole family." A local TV celeb, a Jan Yanihero, did the narration of the story on a stage, wearing a santa hat. The story, while cute, was really just holiday "fluff". It was partly based on the adventures of Mumford the Penguin, the mascot animal of Mervyn's California, a chain department store (Kristi endorses their products to an extent, does TV ads, etc.)  Mumford and his brother get lost in the snowy wilderness, and two faithful dogs, Snow and Flake (I think) go to try and find them. The roles were played by various young skaters...Kristi was the hostess, of course, and also played "mamushka" (why the Russian title ??) the "mother" of the two lost penguins. For the "mother" scenes, she basically had a shawl over her skating costume. When she is "grieving" for her lost "sons," for example, she flings away the shawl and goes into her Blue Christmas number. At various stages the young skaters also did solo numbers, etc.

The costumes? Well, as I mentioned before, for Blue Christmas she had pants and a top on --that left her midrift bare -- you could see her cute navel! :)  Colors?  I was kind of mesmerized by Kristi's performance,  white with blue elements,  I think. I took some (probably blurry)
photos of her -- I hope at least one ot two come out -- the roll isn't done yet.

As I said, it's a standard ice rink -- you could go right to the edge -- a time Kristi spend by within 3-4 feet of me. I was right at the edge,  though there was a big crowd, maybe 4 deep.  A thrill of my life -- she is pure enchantment -- grace, sweetness, talent.

However, I have to say the down side was the standing -- ie, NO BLEACHERS.... The show was due to go on at 5:30 -- didn't start till about ten to six -- ended by about 25 after six.  About a 30-40 minute show...but, it was tiresome to stand and stand...worth it, though...and to actually talk to Kristi, and shake her hand. I should say that when she came out, after the show, her police escort whisked her away -- I mean, time enough for a hello and so on -- but NO time for autographs. A number of people, young and old, with pictures of her, etc, were disappointed....

I love Kristi, and it was a great, great moment. I had a "ringside" seat to her skating close-up, and then, saying hello and shaking her hand.
