1996 Gold Championships

Artistic Program : Trouble
Choreographed by Sandra Bezic

Review and Comments:

This program is a prime example of Kristi’s new-found skating style in the 1996-97 season. She said her "Trouble" program "brought out the "aggressive woman" in her. In this program, she played with the crowd, and flirted with the judges. Although this routine was easier than her technical "Tango" program, it was just as nice to watch. Her jumps were solid, although she did not include the triple loop and triple flip in her repitore.

Here is a list of the elements included in this program:

The Scores for Kristi Yamaguchi are:
Technical Elements: 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.8, 9.9
Artistry: 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.9, 9.8
Total after Artistic Program: 99.0 (First place)

After both Programs: 197.6 (Overall Champion)

Interview with Elfi Schlegal after the winning the competition:

Elfi congratulated her for winning 3 for 3 Gold Championships, and asked how this one was different from the other two she won. Kristi says, "I didn’t skate as well as I hoped on this particular championship, but I think I lacked a little mentally."
