Collectible China Buttons

Stencil Buttons

These small china buttons have two holes and the body colors are white or ivory.
They are called stencils because the design was supposedly applied
with the use of a stencil.
Some of the designs, however, especially the ones with unbroken rings
could not have been applied that way.
Stencil buttons were especially popular in the 1930's
and are loved by collectors for their bright and distinct designs.
Sixty-three different patterns have been catalogued,
but only the most avid collector has more than the most popular designs.

The stencils pictured here represent some
of the colors and patterns which were produced.
