69. Jan Cornelis BOEKEMA
was born on 25 Mar 1905 in Wijtgaard. March 25 is the feast of the Annunciation,
one of the reasons of Dad's devotion to Mary.
He died in Almonte, Ontario, Canada, on 10 March 1999.
He was married to Jantje Johs. RIEMERSMA (daughter of Johannes Eeuwes RIEMERSMA and Jeltje (Juliana) Eises Tromp TROMP) on 10 May 1929 in Oldeboorn. Religous marriage 11 May 1929 in Irnsum, St.Marcus' parish.
"Pake" Johannes Riemersma was a barber, youngest child of Eeuwe Jans Riemersma and Klaaske Willems Dykstra. He was born in Irnsum, Rauwerderhem, on 6 June 1858 and died in Irnsum, Rijkstraatweg 118, on 9 Aug. 1937.
He was first married with Hinke Gerrits Haringsma (2 June 1861, Gersloot - 30 April 1894, Oosterwierum) on 25 May 1883, Rauwerderhem. They had five children: Joege (Eeuwe), Limke, Klas, Tryn and Gerrit.
He married on 7 Nov. 1896, Baarderadeel, with "Beppe" Jeltje, his housekeeper, daughter of Eize Tromp and Stientje Wolthuizen. She was born on 26 March 1876, Doniawerstal, and died on 6 Dec. 1912, Leeuwarden, from tuberculosis. They had four children: Christien, Hinke, Eise and Jantje.
Pake Johannes was "Doopsgezind" (Mennonite). Beppe Jeltje was originally Protestant, but getting in touch with the family of Jan Jacobus Boekema, dad of my paternal grandfather, in Nijega-Schartserbręge, she became catholic. Her marriage with Pake Johs brought her back in a Protestant church, but sick with tuberculosis, she was visited
by Mrs. Drontman, from a wealthy family in Leeuwarden, who helped her to get
her four children baptized before passing
away. This was done without Pake Johs knowing it. He was mad when he found out
about it, because he would have liked to be present at the baptism!
When my Dad presented my Mom to his parents, Pake Knillis discovered that he had known my Mom's mother during his youth.
Jantje Johs. RIEMERSMA(36) was born on 7 Jun 1907 in Huizum. She died on 23 Feb 1987 in Nepean (Queensway-Carleton hospital), Ontario, Canada.(18) She was cremated on 26 Feb 1987 in Pinehurst Chapel, Baseline road, Ottawa. (37) She was also known as Jane. Lost her mother when she was five years old. Raised by the "Zusters van Liefde" in Leeuwarden. Her father, Pake Johs, was a Mennonite (Doopsgezind). Her mother, Beppe Jeltje Tromp, was originally from Nijega - Schartserbrêge, got in touch with the family of Jan Jac. B. and became catholic. Sick with tuberculosis, she was visited by Mrs. Drontman, from a wealthy family in Leeuwarden, who helped her to get her four children baptized before passing away. This was done without Pake Johs knowing it. He was mad when he found out about it, because he would have liked to be present at the baptism! Later on, when my Dad presented for the first time my Mom to his parents, Pake Knillis discovered that he had known my Mom's mother.
