It was a Sunday night around 9 p.m. when the call came to me at home from the Birthright Hotline.  The call was from a girl who had learned she was pregnant as a result of rape.  I will call her Mary (not her real name).

Mary was frantic and said she was considering abortion.  I was sympathetic with her and agreed that it was a violent act against her but if she had an abortion BOTH she and the baby would suffer.

I asked her if she had seen a doctor yet and she answered no.  Then I asked if she would let me take her to see a doctor and she said yes.  I proceeded to get her a doctor's appointment.  I told her that I would call her back on Monday to let her know the specifics on the appointment and I would go with her.  She was under a great deal of stress and I knew I had no time to waste and must get her seen by a pro-life doctor soon.

We are blessed to have such a doctor in the area and Mary was seen at their office.  After being checked out and given a sonogram.  Mary came out of the office beaming as she handed me a picture of her baby.  While the doctor had been very helpful in answering her questions, she still was not committed to carrying the baby to term.  We talked and I got her to agree to let me make an appointment for her to see the doctor again in a few weeks.

Over those few weeks I took her out to lunch several times and kept in touch with her as I knew she needed a friend.  Her Mother did not know of the pregnancy and I encouraged her to tell her.  When she did, her Mom was very supportive.  (Mary already had another child and her Mom was helping her with that one.)

By the time Mary had her third appointment with the doctor she had decided she would keep her baby.  As a Christian she did know that abortion was wrong.  I encouraged her to start going back to Church.  She did and rededicated her life to Jesus.  I know this is what got her through.

He only used me and Birthright as instruments.

On October 3rd., Mary delivered a 7 lb. baby girl.  She was beautiful!  Mary still needs a lot of help.  I've been helping her find a place of her own.  And I will continue to be there for her as long as she needs me, although we encourage our "girls" to do as much on their own as they can.

I have made a good friend with Mary and thank God that He allowed our paths to cross.  Through out my 22 years with Birthright God has blessed me abundantly and I count Mary and her daughter among those blessings!

It is noteworthy and honorable that some folks are willing to stand up for a ban on Partial-Birth Abortion.  Let us not forget that ordinary everyday run of the mill abortion is also murder.  We must understand that murder is murder no matter the method.  Because one method of abortion seems to be horrible does not make the other methods less so.  We should be horrified and sickened by any abortion regardless of the method.  The Fifth Commandment spells it out clearly:

"Thou shalt not kill."

A fetus is a person, a human being with a God given soul.  Imagine the pain the Lord must feel when any abortion occurs.  Please contact both of your Senators and Representative, via letter or phone,  to let them know how horrified you are that abortions are legal and to stop Partial-Birth abortions and all other abortions as soon as possible.
