Thomaston, Maine, is located on the coast in Knox County, bounded by Warren, Rockland, South Thomaston, and Cushing. The town was settled in 1719, set off from Warren and St. George Pl., and incorporated 20 March 1777, the 37th town in Maine. Earlier designations were Georgeekeeg and Saint George Lower Town. Whereas Thomaston is to the south of Warren, Rockport, also in Knox County, is located to the north bounded by both Union and Camden of which it was once a part. Camden was settled in 1769 and incorporated 17 Feb 1791, the 72nd town. Previous designations were Megunticook, Madakamigossek, and Cambden (Attwood, Stanley B. The length and breadth of Maine. U Maine Press:Orono, 1974.).
Cushing is where Solomon and Isaac Norwood, sons of Joshua Norwood, Jr. and Sarah Goodrich, were living in 1790 when the first census was taken. Isaac had a son Abraham about the same age as this Abraham, who married a Frances Hall 29 Dec 1796. It seems that the Abraham Norwood above may well have been a descendant of Joshua Norwood, Sr. and Elizabeth Andrews, but by which son? Isaac and Solomon's brother Moses who settled in Eastport, Maine named two sons Abraham, having lost the first in its infancy.
17. GEORGE NORWOOD married Margaret Watts on December 21, 1834. Margaret Watts was born October 13, 1814, West Camden, ME. Her parents were Samuel Watts II and Nancy Jones.
