As the year winds down, and
we come to my favorite holiday
...I think back on all the Christmas'
that was shared with my family,

when I was a child, when my children were small
and with my Grandchildren. All are special.
And there are little things
that I have carried down
from my childhood
and tried to infuse them into my childrens,
silly little things, like my Father actually being the first up on Christmas morning, around 5 A.M.
running in waking us kids
to see what "Sandy Claws"
left for us. And other things
that although unpleasant at the time,
brings a smile to me now...
my sister and I having Mumps....on both sides,
at the same time,
at Christmas and the "Tommy dolls" we both got.
And the year I snooped and found our Chirstmas gifts....
my favorite (that year) was a pair of boots,
blue with gray fur trim at the top.
Oh, and the year
I got a "little girls
"set of luggage "and all I wanted was a Barbie doll, I was so dissappointed that I didn't look into the luggage
until much later that day only to find
my beloved "Barbie" packed inside.
And of course
the family gatherings, at my fathers side, and then my Mothers side...it was a large family, and my Grandpa Barker
was my sunshine. He was a good christian man,
who walked, talked and looked like the character
Walter Brennan played
on the TV showThe Real McCoys,
right down to the "Dad blamit" and "you younguns"
I miss him, and his love that he showed all of us.
It was at one of these family Christmas'
that I discovered that Santa Claus
was really the minister at my Grand Pa's church,
imagine my amazment when I tried to figure out
how he could preach on Monday, Wednesday
and twice on Sunday and still be Santa Clause!!
Gone from our world physically,

Mom & Dad, Grandpa & Grandma Barker,
Grand Dad & Granny Maude,
and all the Aunts, Uncles and cousins
that are together looking down on us as we prepare to celebrate another Christmas without them.

And the rest of the family spread all over the United States..
My brother is in Nortern Michigan, My sister in Indiana,
my oldest son Matthew with his family also in Indiana,
my youngest son Jason  and his wife in North Carolina,
my niece Nikki in Michigan,
nephew Tony in Florida,
and here I am in California!!
My dream is to one day get all together
just once more for a real family Christmas,
where we go in wake the kids
to see what "Sandy Claws" left.

And remember the real purpose of the season.

May you and yours have a
wonderful Holy Christmas.
