"I Love You Nanny"
My heart melts when I hear those three little words. Being a Grandmother is a gift from God. It doesn't matter what they call you. It can be Nana, Granny, Nanny or Grandma, its the sound of their sweet voices when they say those three little words that makes you realize how important you are to them, and just how important they are to you.
I have a collection of favorite poems about Grandmothers. I hope
you will enjoy them as much as I do.
Here are afew of my favorites.
Grandmother's Rocking Chair
Grandma, hold me a little longer,
Rock me a little more.
Tell me another story,
You've only told me four!
Let me sleep on your shoulder,
I love your happy smile.
I'll always love you Grandma,
so stay with me awhile.

Being a Grandmother is God's gift for growing old.
Life is easier if you hear the steps of grandchildren walking beside you.
A grandmother is a blessing from above,
who fills our home with warmth and love.
So if you have a grandma
Thank the Good Lord up above,
And give Grandmama hugs and kisses,
For Grandmothers are to love.

Old Grandma Shoes
When I was very little...
All the Grandmas that I knew...
Were wearing the same kind...
Of ugly grandma shoes...
You know the kind I mean.
Clunky heeled, black, lace-up kind,
They just looked so very awful...
That it weighed upon my mind.
For I knew, when I grew old,
I'd have to wear those shoes,
I'd think of that, from time to time...
It seemed like such bad news.
I never was a rebel...
I wore saddle shoes to school,
And next came ballerinas...
Then the sandals, pretty cool.
And then came spikes with pointed toes...
Then platforms, very tall.
As each new fashion came along,
I wore them, one and all.
But always, in the distance...
Looming in my future, there,
Was that awful pair of ugly shoes...
The kind that Grandmas wear.
I eventually got married,
And then I became a Mom...
Our kids grew up and left,
And when their children came along,
I knew I was a Grandma,
And the time was drawing near...
When those clunky, black, old lace up shoes
Was what I'd have to wear.
How would I do my gardening,
Or take my morning hike?
I couldn't even think about...
How I would ride my bike!
But fashions kept evolving...
And one day I realized,
That the shape of things to come...
Was changing, right before my eyes.
And now, when I go shopping,
What I see, fills me with glee...
For, in my jeans and Reeboks,
I'm as comfy as can be.
And I look at all these little girls,
And there, upon their feet...
Are clunky, black, old Grandma shoes,
And I really think that's neat.

Gramma's Apron
by C. J. Heck
Gramma's gone but not forgotten,
That's her apron hanging ~~ there.
It still hangs in Grampa's kitchen
Sometimes he looks at it and stares.
When Gramma wore her apron
It was magical to me.
The pockets held such treasures
For the grandkids just like me.
Saw it shine up Grampa's fender once
Just as pretty as you please
And it wiped my brother's cheek off
One time when he sneezed.
It took cookies from the oven
And rushed to wipe a tear.
Got a grain of sand out of your eye
Made a lap for her stories to hear.
It wiped spills up from the countertop
When she was baking pies
A symbol of her love and care
And it showed, too, in her eyes.
Sometimes I'm sad to look at it
When I see my Grampa stare.
Gramma's gone but not forgotten.
That's her apron hanging ~~ there.

One little boy put it very well when asked what a grandmother was.
He said:
"A grandmother is a lady who has no children of her own, so she loves everybody else's.
Grandmas don't have anything to do except be there. If they take you for a walk, they slow down past leaves and caterpillars. They never say 'hurry up.'
Usually they're fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes. They wear glasses, and sometimes they can take their teeth out.
They can answer questions like why dogs hate cats and why God isn't married.
When they read to you, they don't skip words or mind if it's the same story again.
Everyone should try to have a grandmother, especially if they don't have television, because grandmas are the only grownups who always have time for you."
