VARIATI0NS FOR MITTENS KNITTED
ON 2 NEEDLES
A. Mitts with Safety Cord
Sizes, materials, tension and color
for knitting are given above.
To make the safety cord: Using 2 strands
of yam, crochet a chain 2 1/2 times the
length of one arm. Sew a mitt to each end
of cord.
B. Striped Mitts
MATERIALS: (all sizes): 1 8 oz. skein
color B and 1 skein contrasting color
4 ply knitting worsted weight Sizes,
needles and tension are given on page 7.
To knit the mitts: Working in stripes of 4
rows of one color and 2 rows of another
color, and being sure always to knit the
1st row of the new color when working
the ribbed cuff, work from instructions
given on page 7.
C. Mitts with Checkered Gauntlets
MATERIALS: (all sizes). 1 8 oz skein
worsted weight yarn. Sizes, needles and tension
as given on page 7.
The instructions for the gauntlet are
written for size 2-4. Any changes necessary for
sizes 6-8 and 10-12 are written in brackets
thus: ( )
**RIGHT MITT: With A cast on 40 sts
(6-8--48 sts) (10-12--56 sts).
Work 2 rows (K1. P1) ribbing.
Continue even in stocking st until work
from beginning measures 2 1/2 ins
(6-8--3 ins) (10-12--3 1/2 ins) ending
with purl row.
Join B and proceed:--
1st row: *K2B. K2A. Carrying color not
in use loosely at back of work, repeat from
* to end of row.
2nd row: *P2A. P2B. Repeat from * to
end of row.
3rd row: *K2A. K2B. Repeat from * to
end of row.
4th row: *P2B. P2A. Repeat from + to

D. Laced Mitts
Sizes, materials, tension and instructions for
knitting are given on page 7.
To make lacing: With contrasting colored
yarn, crochet a chain 3 times the length of
the back of the mitt (excluding cuff). Using
a bodkin and beginning at top, thread
lacing through the knitting as illustrated.
Make 2 small tassels and sew to each end
of lacing.
To make tassel: Cut a piece of cardboard
1" ins wide. Wind yarn around cardboard
20 times. Break yarn leaving an end about
6 ins long and thread through a blunt-
ended needle. Slip the needle through all
loops on cardboard and tie tightly at one
edge. Slip tassel off cardboard and wind
yarn several times around the loops ½" inch
from the fold. Draw needle through the
top and sew tassel in position. Cut through
other fold and trim evenly.
E. Mitts with Cross Stitch Embroidery
Sizes, materials, tension and instructions for
knitting are given on page 7.
For the embroidery: With contrasting colored
yarn, embroider zig zag line in cross
st up center of back of mitts as illustrated.
One cross st is worked over one knitted st
and one row throughout. Embroider
diamonds in cross st as illustrated.
F. Mitts with Ribbed Gauntlets
worsted weight yarn, 1 for 2-4, 2 skeins
for sizes 6-8 and 10-12.
