THE DARLINTONIANA: A HISTORY OF DARLINGTON COUNTY,
edited
by Eliza Cowan
Ervin and Horace Fraser Rudisill.
At long last this standard Darlington County reference
is again in print. No longer do those who are interested in
the history of Darlington
County have to search used bookstores for a chance to purchase this
work. Thanks to
the Darlington County Historical Society, DARLINGTONIANA
has been reprinted in limited
quantities. This history is actually a collection of essays,
accounts, memories, and an
occasional newspaper article concerning the history and
personalities of Darlington
County. Each section of the county is given a fair treatment
in this work. Historic
homes, churches, various communities, societies, and unusual
occurrences are well
represented on these pages.
The book is well illustrated and a full name index enhances
the usefulness of DARLINGTONIANA.
This is a picture of the county as it existed in a long
ago era. The stories and legends are here: the hanging of Amy
Spain, the selection of
the site for the county seat, the Darlington Riot, and the
Darlington Oak. Take advantage
of the opportunity to acquire this book. © 1964, xiii + 502
pages, hardcover, index,
photographs. Price: $32.00 plus
$4.00 shipping for first book and
$1.50 for each
additional book.
