Pritchardia minor is native to the island of Kauai. This species is found growing in wet to swampy regions of the Kokee region, at elevations of about 4000 feet.

This palm was purchased in 1996 from Kapoho Palms on the island of Hawai`i. It was in a conetainer and was approx. 8 inches in total height. The cost was about $4.00.

It was transplanted some months later into a 2 gallon gro-bag. There it stayed until the spring of 1998 when it went in the ground. At that time it was somewhat smaller than the 18 inches shown in the top picture on the left.

A year later in November of 1999 the picture on the left was taken. I stand 6 feet tall. When sitting the top of my head is about 28 inches from the ground. The growth of all "my" Pritchardias has been incredable. Each has more than doubled in height in the past year. I can't figure this out as most of these are rainforest trees growing in a desert with only once a week water. Maybe its the increased amount of sunshine?
