Christmas' Real
Meaning
by
Barbara Philbrook
Once again it is
that special time of year,
and far be it from me to detract from another's cheer.
We must remember
how Christmas began,
the day for honoring Jesus' birth and the salvation plan.
Now the
decorations and gifts are lovely to see each year,
but sometimes we get carried away I fear.
Is it right to
decorate and spend so lavishly,
while some poor soul is suffering and hungry?
Is my warm
fireplace and lights on the tree,
making it difficult for me to see?
Are the warm
clothes I have on my back,
preventing me from seeing what others lack?
Is all of the
food which I plan to serve,
keeping me from helping those who God's love deserve?
This day was
meant to remember Jesus' birth,
and we buy gifts of such tremendous worth.
Is the giving of
gifts to share Jesus' story,
or is it to bring us some honor and glory?
Each of us must
search so we will know,
before the real meaning of Christmas we can bestow.
Each of us must
go to the Father on our own,
asking that His will for us be known.
Each of us must
determine deep within,
what we are willing to do and when we'll begin.
Christmas's real
meaning is a magnificent story.
Let's remember to God goes all of the honor and glory.
