Daily Surrender
by Barbara Philbrook

I awoke this morning and assumedly went about the day,
not even hesitating, not even taking a moment to pray.

Havoc set in at once, things went wrong right from the start,
but do you think I was wise enough to kneel and surrender my heart.

I just kept on stumbling, doing everything completely wrong,
my heart did not contain a melody, not even the title of a song.

Everyone else I bumped into seemed to be having problems too,
we were all affected in negative ways no matter what we'd do.

Usually people are smiling at me no matter where I happen to be,
I never stopped to ponder that perhaps the smiles began in me.

If you are not right with God as you begin the day,
everything you encounter appears in a totally different way.

Father I am so sorry I neglected to surrender at the start of today,
please remind me daily that things don't work right when I forget to pray.

I am not happy when my heart is not in tune with you,
so please remind me daily surrendering is the first thing that I must do!
