Day By Day
by Barbara Philbrook

Day by day is how I must live my life,
to think beyond that would be inviting strife.

I must wait till I wake to see how the day will go,
whether I can move at a normal pace or must go slow.

Can I lift an arm and brush my hair,
or must I wait till my honey can try to make it appear fair.

Will I be able to walk without excruciating pain,
or will there be things from which I will refrain.

Are the floors going to be swept clean today,
or will my wish be that unexpected visitors stay away.

If I have the strength to wash laundry today,
will I also have the ability to fold and put it away?

Lord I am not complaining about the thorns in my side,
I know that sufficient is the grace You provide.

These are just things that not everyone must wait to see,
before they can plan on what their day will be.

May I count all that I face as glory dear Lord,
and may at the end of each day I gratefully applaud.

May my complaints be meager and few,
and may I have nothing but gratitude dear Lord for You.

Even if in time I have to live minute by minute,
may I still find Your precious love residing there in it.
