Getting Even
by Barbara Philbrook

Have you ever given "getting even" any thought?
I know it is not what most Christians are taught.

I have a thought I'd like to share.
How about if we all promise to get even with all who we owe out there.

How about if we determine to get even for every favor done,
and when that person needs something we run.

Perhaps we should make an IOU list of those we owe,
and make an effort to pay them back as we go.

The ones we owe a smile, which has made our day,
or a lifting hand for helping us some way.

Do we owe a phone call to inquire about one's health?
Not everything we owe would deplete our wealth.

How about the child who made you feel young today?
Have you thought about paying them back in some way?

The paperboy who keeps your paper dry..
Do you stop to inquire about him as he passes by?

The grocer who used two bags instead of one,
or the person who walked next to you when they could have run.

Your mail person for remembering your house number,
and for not staying in bed on a snowy day for some extra slumber.

Many little things in our minds we take for granted.
Where some have their vengeful thoughts implanted.

Just the everyday kindness would take up all our day.
Then we wouldn't have to think in any negative way.

Getting even can have a lovely connotation.
Come on, join me, I give you my personal invitation.

Let's get even for all the good in life.
Let's drive away all negativity and strife.
