Growing Pains
by Barbara Philbrook

Growing pains, I always thought they were something children feel,
but I've had a few of my own and they are very real.

The pain of hearing a suddenly raised voice,
just because you didn't like their choice.

The pain when you hear that self righteous sigh,
meaning they think your brain is the size of a fly.

The pain when they look at you with less than admiration,
and you don't understand half of their conversation.

The pain when friendships mean more than family,
and when the precious smile you love, you hardly ever see.

The pain when they want to move out on their own,
and you have to beg to get a call on the phone.

But if you've introduced them to God above,
they will survive through His grace and love.

Growing pains, but they all fade out of site,
when suddenly you realize they've turned out all right.

They'll come home all grown with their own family,
and all of the growing pains will fade totally.
