Hurtful Words
by Barbara Philbrook

Hurtful words are those said in anger by another,
they sometimes cause pain and tend to smother.

Words can only hurt us if we allow them to,
the pain is caused by our personal view.

It's what we choose to think about what we hear,
that brings us inner peace or a sudden tear.

Lord I pray I have discernment from You,
that makes my personal perspective agree with Your view.

Keep my eyes Lord played on Thee,
not worrying about improving my personality.

It matters not what the world thinks about me,
all that matters is what You know and see.

You Father know what is deep in my heart,
and never ever will You give up or depart.

Hurtful words can have no effect on me,
because I'm homeward bound for eternity.

Nothing in or of this world can cause me pain or sorrow,
because I have a savior who's promised me heaven's tomorrow.

Thank You Father for Your assurance and love,
and thank You too for making me a home with You above.

Hurtful words shall no longer cause me pain,
instead I'll sing praises to Your precious name.
