When I Awoke
by Barbara Philbrook

When I awoke this morning and knelt my prayers to say,
I discovered that I now look upon life in a brand new way.

There was a time when I dwelt on the past,
and allowed pains and fears to last and last.

I once worried what each new day would bring about,
and often spent hours trying to plan how to handle any situation that would result.

But God has shown me that there is no way in which I can be prepared no matter how I try,
so why should I waste those precious moments I ask you why.

Instead I shall spend my time thanking God for where I walk,
for what I've seen, and what I hear as others talk.

I shall listen closely to hear what the Lord has to say,
and vow that I shall try to find something good in each new day.

There's no way I can change any of my yesterdays,
and no way of knowing for sure that I will have any new days.

So I'll be grateful for each day that I wake,
and pray that a difference in this world I can make.
