Lord, How Could You?
by Barbara Philbrook

My relationship with my baby girl is very dear,
for most of her life when she had a need I was near.

There came a time when we were separated by many miles,
oh how I ached to see her precious smiles.

I was in an accident and unable to travel or so told,
and she facing trials desperately needed to be consoled.

Never before was I away when she had a need,
my heart ached so I half expected it to bleed.

"Lord how could You?" I cried in desperation,
then gasped as I waited for the reverberation.

Would I be struck by lightning for my disrespect,
but the answer was one I didn't expect.

So lovingly and sweet He answered me,
"because I want her to come to Me you see."

I had been giving her what she was to go to God to receive,
oh how this knowledge my pain did relieve.

Our God is in charge He is totally in control,
and if you surrender, you too, in His hand He will hold.

Lord how could you love one so unworthy as me?
May I continually worship and willingly serve thee.
