Our Pastor
by Barbara Philbrook

Our Pastor is the Shepherd of the flock,
he hears and obeys as God guides his walk.

He submits daily to our Father above,
seeking wisdom discernment and an ability to love.

He is a teacher responsible for opening our mind,
so that wisdom and inner peace we each find.

He is a confessor if someone has that need,
having the ability to show them how to proceed.

He is a moderator keeping us down to earth,
reminding us we must let God decide our worth.

He  lifts us up when we are down,
and sees that we set our feet firmly on solid ground.

He also must point out where we are falling short,
whether he likes this part of his job or not.

He must be a financier too,
artfully ably to introduce the church's needs to me and you.

He is an ambassador between the Church and those outside,
inviting all in with arms open wide.

He is also an arbitrator if there be a need,
where in fairness and impartiality he must lead.

He is a Prophet from God dedicated to His mission,
who must perpetually be in submission.

He is an interpreter giving meaning,
to the knowledge and visions he's been gleaning.

He is a trainer showing us the way to go,
and how to find the wisdom which we need to grow.

He is a coach prodding us on to do our best,
that we will each be ready to meet any test.

He is our example of how to live life,
how to follow God's direction and surrender our strife.

The Pastor and his wife are our leaders you see,
guiding us to a life of  holiness and humility.

They both have submitted to do all that they can,
to help Our Father with His Great Master Plan.

We are the flock God has given Him to lead,
and we each can determine to help him proceed.

If we resolve to surrender to God each day,
and to offer petitions for God to guide their way.

If we seek to find that which we are gifted to do,
and ask God to help us to follow it through.

If we pray daily to be led by the Spirit,
and to attentively listen for his voice so that we hear it.

If we pledge to accept and to do our part,
and to continually give God the reigns of our heart.

Then the work will be accomplished at a faster pace,
we all then will be winners in life's race.

Won't each of you here who agree with me,
stand and offer Them our thanks our heartfelt plea.

To stand beside them doing all we can,
as They obediently take part in God's Great Master Plan.
