Today is the First Day
by Barbara Philbrook

Today is the first day in the new year,
one many looked forward to with trepidation and fear.

Today is the first day in a brand new century,
and none of us know what our futures will see.

Today is the first day in the new millennium,
some predictions of it were terribly glum.

Today is the first day in the rest of our lives,
and no one knows how long we'll each survive.

The point is we never know what's coming day to day,
but we can determine to live in a certain way.

We can determine not to hurt one another,
to treasure each man as a beloved brother.

We can make the choice to be honest and true,
just as you'd like everyone to be with you.

We can make life better each day,
by being careful of the things we do and say.

We can treasure the life of each and every man,
and extend each as we partake of the salvation plan.

We have some control over our quality of life,
making sure no one is overcome with strife.

We can make life easier for one and all,
if each day we take time to make one call.

Call on the Father surrender the day to Him,
this way a brand new life in each of us He'll begin.

Today is the first day in this life as we know it,
and if we all call on our Father our lives will show it.
