To Light The Dark
by Barbara Philbrook

Lord could you remind me I am not a bonfire awaiting a spark,
I am but a candle to light the dark.

Just a glow of love shining forth from within,
just to let them know Jesus paid for their sin.

I must not burst forth with a massive eruption,
causing chaos and disruption.

A glimmer of hope is what I must present to another,
inviting them to become my brother.

I must not ignite as though to blow the world away,
I must hesitate a moment pausing to pray.

Just a candle to light the dark and drive away the gloom,
just to share that Jesus will be coming soon.

Just a candle to light the dark and extinguish the fear,
reminding each we have a comforter who is always near.

Just a candle to light the dark so the world no longer appears grim,
the beckoning of God's love will then draw them in.

Just a candle to light the dark to let a little light shine,
God may I never forget that the light is thine.
