When Two Become One
by Barbara Philbrook

When two become one each must do his or her part,
they must surrender to their partner all the love in their heart.

When two decide they are meant to live as one,
they must both be surrendered to God through His loving Son.

Having only one objective is what would serve them best,
it would guarantee their marriage is forever blessed.

Two minds thinking along the same train of thought,
this is a truth that the Holy Word of God has always taught.

Two hearts beating with the same inner zeal,
both aching to show the world that God's love is real.

Two souls heading in the same eternal direction,
both having accepted God's loving affection.

These two who are being joined in holy matrimony,
each promising the other neither will ever be lonely.

At their ceremony each will make a solemn vow,
to love, honor and obey starting right now.

Promises to remain in sickness or health,
and of course sharing the burdens, the trials and all wealth.

Today starts our journey together down life's narrow way,
before reaching each curve we must determine we'll pray.

Seeking guidance and listening closely to hear it,
the gentle voice of our Father, His Son or the Holy Spirit.

Promising to care for and about each other day by day,
ensures that our life will be blessed in a very special way.

Aware that because we are being joined in wedded bliss,
does not guarantee us constant happiness.

Facing life together no matter what comes our way,
is the commitment we are making as we are joined together today.
