Why Lord?
by Barbara Philbrook

Why Lord can't I be more like you,
there is still some of me left no matter what I do.

I surrender and I submit,
but still there are things over which I throw a fit.

I pray and read in your Holy Word each day,
but still my temper tends to have it's way.

Patience is a virtue this is true,
and one can't have it without submitting to you.

Slow to anger is a fruit of the Spirit,
when I go to church that's where I hear it.

So I seek to find what you want me to be,
but Lord I still have remnants of me.

Forgiveness is another of the fruits I must possess,
but waiting is causing me so much distress.

Some people are changed in the twinkling of an eye,
I must not think the changes passed me by.

Father I want to perfectly emulate you,
I know the changes and the when are yours to do.

Help me to remember that the cleansing is done from within,
and to doubt your word would be a sin.
