Help Reading Vamberk Museum's Pages

Vamberk Museum's site is all in Czech. Lenka Suchanek kindly wrote out an explanation to help those of us who cannot read Czeck. Enjoy the site!

This site "...is divided in four major parts:
1. Golden Collection (zlaty fond)
2. Lace Artists (vytvarnici)
3. 100 years in Photography (100 let krajky ve fotografii)
4. Museum Displays (vitriny)

1. The Golden Collection (zlaty fond) would be the most interesting part for all lacemakers. It contains more than nine hundred photographs of various kinds of lace made in Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. I can imagine that it is not easy to navigate through the site for someone who doesn't understand Czech.

If you go directly to http://www.vkm.net/cgi-bin/miva?~krajki/bdp/bd_dat.mv you will find yourself at the first page of Collections (sbirkove fondy). At the top of the page, on the right hand side you will see "nasledujici objekt". This is your "NEXT" link. Clicking on it will take you to the following page. If you want to go "BACK", to the previous page, click on "predchozi objekt" link.

The Golden Collection begins with antique lace. The first 100 samples of lace show influence of various lace styles on production in 17th and 18th century. Next 400 photos features developement of original designs using variety of techniques. Images in 600 range introduce lace design of the beginning of this century. Following photographs, approximately from 700 to 850, represent work of contemporary lace artists and designers. If you want to browse through the collection randomly, go to http://www.vkm.net/cgi-bin/miva?~krajki/bdp/bd_lis.mv then scroll down the list, and choose items from #1 to #926 by clicking on a numbered links. Once a particular page is selected, you can use again "nasledujici oblect" link to go to the next page or "predchozi objekt" to go to the previous page.

2. Lace Artists (vytvarnici).
http://www.vkm.net/cgi-bin/miva?~krajki/bdp/ds_lis.mv
is a list that leads to individual pages of 52 Czech lacemakers/designers.

3. 100 years in photography
http://www.vkm.net/menu/let_100/let_1.htm
offers 126 historical photographs from the Museum's collection.

4. Museum Displays (vitriny)
http://www.vkm.net/menu/e01.htm#E010100
will take you on the tour through the Lace Museum in Vamberk.
