The name Maticevich is Slavonian. This is the form of the name as it came over from the area which once was Ragusa then Dbrovnik, Yugoslavia. One of the sons of Michel Maticevich shortened his name to Matovich. Some of the family continued to use the original name and others chose to use the shortened form.
Nicholas Maticevich owned a small bakery and restaurant in San Francisco. He was a baker. His son Mitchell followed in his footsteps, making pastries and breads in the old-fashioned way with real ingredients. He owned his own bakery for a long time, but, even after he retired, Mitchell baked for a friend of his. "Whatever you want to make for as long as you feel like working,"his friend told him. Mitchell continued to bake well into his eighties.
