Would you have been a boy
With dirty hands and knees
With frogs stuck in your pockets
And grass stains on your jeans?

Or maybe you’d have been a girl
With pretty pink hair bows,
Dainty little fingers,
And a tiny turned up nose.

You might have been a doctor,
A detective or a wife,
But someone chose to cut you off
Said you weren’t yet a life.

You didn’t get to learn to walk
One step at a time
The voice you never got to use
Lives only in our minds.

You never got to go to school
To think and learn and play
Your graduation we will not attend
You won’t be here that day.

Your little spirit has gone to God
To watch from heaven’s door
We’ll never know what you’d have been
Because on Earth you are no more.
