Lion
John Regan has installed ultra sound varmint devices in our Club. The
squirrel is still with us, but Lion John can't get in the door.
Welcome Lion Sheri Gordon. Lion Sheri was installed this month as the newest Spenard Lion. She is a Leo Advisor, and her daughter, Leo Amy is the Spenard Leo Club Secretary.
This month begins the election process for new Club Officers. I am happy to announce that Lion Mady Burnett has once again volunteered to be the Tail Twister. If anyone else would like to hold an office, please give me a call or e-mail me.
Thanks to Lion Charlotte for being such a good Secretary. Lion Charlotte has been producing lots of paperwork for the Cabinet Meeting, Awards Night, and for our new Leos Club.
If any Lion wishes to attend the International Convention in Hawaii, they need to reserve their seats on Hawaiian Air, and make their hotel room reservations through International Lions. Convention 2000 attendees need to reserve their rooms at the Sheraton, and purchase their ad as soon as possible. See Lion Joanne Koss, Convention 2000 Chairperson, for information.
Lion Mark Lutz has taken more of our glasses to Mexico. Good luck Mark, we hope to see you again soon.
That is all of the news for now. March will be an extremely busy month for the Spenard Lions. Thanks to everyone, I know that you will make the month slide by effortlessly.

A Poem submitted by Lion
Charlotte Henke
Have you ever-watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.
Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask, "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done,do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores, running through your head?
You'd better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music
won't last
Ever told your child,we'll do it tomorrow, and in your haste, not see
his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die,
'cause you never had time,to call and say "Hi"?
You'd better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music
won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere, you miss half the fun of
getting there,.
When you worry and hurry through your day,It is like an unopened
gift...thrown away
Life is not a race,Do take it slower.Hear the music, before the song
is over.
A Little Humor Goes A Long Way
These two guys own a cattle ranch and are in need of a new bull for their herd. They decide to take $600.00 out of their bank account and travel to Texas to find the perfect bull.
After locating what seems to be the perfect cattle rancher in Texas with a good looking bull, the back and forth finances come to an agreement. The ranchers from Montana will pay the Texan $599.00 for his bull. The two ranchers shake hands and it is a done deal. This of course leaves the guy from Montana with one dollar in his pocket.
The trick now, is how to get this bull back to Montana and inform the other partner that a bull was purchased. Finally the Montana cattle rancher came up with a plan. He went to the local Western Union and requested a telegram be sent. The man behind the counter said, the cost was one dollar per word. The rancher said, Fine write the word comfortable. The clerk responded, how will your partner understand the one word message. Easy said the rancher, hes a slow reader and he will sound it out...com for ta ble (come for the bull).
LEOS and Other Livewire News
The newly formed Spenard Leos held a sort and pack work program after their February 6, 2000 meeting. Ten Leos, seven Spenard Lions and five volunteers combined efforts to prepare 18 boxes totaling almost 1,500 eyeglasses for shipment. Anchorage Lion, Mark Lutz, has for the third time, agreed to sheppard another eyeglass shipment to Mexico, this time to the Puerto Vallarta Lions Club.
Alaska Airlines will be asked to transport as many of the eighteen boxes as they can handle on the flight. Alaska Airlines has been generous enough in the past to transport two other eyeglass shipments to Mexico
On an additional note, the Spenard Lions Club has been given sixteen collapsible wheelchairs and is now looking for places they can be used. Most are in good condition but some need minor repairs. The Willow and Douglas Lions clubs have already been contacted regarding their medical equipment lending closets. If you know of someone that can benefit from receiving a wheelchair, please contact the Spenard Lions Club at 907-248-0832. Lets get all these
