Welcome to Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Walt Disney World's newest theme park.

Thursday April 1, 1999

We decided to head out early in the morning to get to Animal Kingdom when the park first opened. All we'd read told us this was the best time of the day. The temprature was cooler and more of the animals would be out and active. It was great!!

The first thing you notice when you enter the park is the tree of life. It is the centerpiece of the park and absolutely breathtaking!! This scanned picture does not do this justice!

Carved in the trunk of this tree are many different animals. I can't remember how many, but I remember seeing bats, spiders, camels, horses, eagles, elephants...too many to list. It was amazing!

Here's one of the animals...can't remember now what this even is, just that I thought it was cute! The craftmanship was astounding!! Me and Ashley goofing off while we wait to get into the theatre that is inside the tree of life. That was one of the best parts!! It was based on 'A Bug's Life' Disney's newest animated full length film. And funny!! Let me tell you!! It's a 3-D movie with all kinds of special effects. Not for the squeamish, for sure!! :o)

Here's a picture of one of the silver back gorillas. It was awesome!! What you can't see in this picture that we captured on film, is the newborn baby clutching to her back. This was on the gorilla path after you get done on the safari. Well worth the wait (which I hear is substantial if you go later in the day)!

Visiting Animal Kingdom was a highlight of our Disney vacation. A perfect way to end our trip!

If you haven't yet, please...
