  • Note: Deed 9 Sep 1696. William Henges and Ann, his wife, of Barmudoes, Burlington Co, West New Jersey, a sailor, to Thomas Bills of Burlington, linen weaver, on the other part. Whereas by the appointment of Edmund Andrews formerly governor of New York and by order of the court, William Sanford was seized of 206 acres of land granted by a warrrant dated 23 Oct 1682 containing 106 acres did convey to Henry Burchcen and Margaret, his wife, of Burlington, by deed date 4 Sep 1694. William Henges and wife, Ann, did grant for a consideration of L20 a parcel of land containing 106 to Thomas Bills. Ackn: 9th day Sep 1696. Wit: Obadiah Horton, Thomas Richards, and Thomas Bibb. Rec. 23rd day, 7th mon, 1696. Thomas Bills removed from his home at Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts to Burlington, N.J. where he was a resident about 1695. Feb 19/1696-7. Thomas Bills of Burlington West New Jersey leased from Mary Carhart, widow of Thomas Carhart, late of Woodbridge, County Middlesex, N.J. deceased, a house and plantation, where she then lived, lying on Craine Creek in the bounds of Woodbridge, containing about 120 acres of upland and meadow for the term of three years from the first day of May next ensuing or for two years longer if the parties both consent thereto, at the annual rent of 5 money of New York, a provision was also made in the lease that the said Thomas Bills was to pay the widow ten shillings rent for each cow on the place. This lease ended by mutual consent June 11, 1698. Bought land in 1697 from John Starkey. September 16, 1701, Thomas Bills of Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co, N.J. weaver, deeded to his son-in-law David Killie of MIddleton, N.J. one half of a lot on the North side of Saw Mill Brook.
