Tzedakah - More than Charity

Many Jews equate the term "tzedakah" with making charitable contributions. We feel that giving tzedakah is a far more complex issue than giving goods, services, or money to help others. We will attempt here to explain some of our feelings towards both tzedakah and charity.

The Hebrew root for the word "tzedakah" is the same as that for "tzadik", a righteous person.

Maimonides (?) described 7 levels of tzedakah, each more righteous than the preceding.

Tzedakah is one of the (four?) pillars on which the world is said to stand.
