I must apologise to the regular visitors, I have been unable to update my site here for awhile now - a glitch in IE prevented me even visiting a site hosted by geocities! Nothing I did or was advised to do seemed to fix it, that is til I found a wonderful tech forum in my travels. I highly recommend it for ANY computer problem you might be having. You will find a link to it on my Links List page.
I hope you like the revamp of the site and now that I am able, will be updating more often.

G'Day!  You are my th visitor since April 12th '98....

A Brief Intro......
My name is Pam, I am a registered Breeder, Exhibitor and an ANCC Judge, I joined the Cavy Fancy here in Australia in 1986 and recently was given the responsibility of  being the Secretary of the National body - the Australian National Cavy Council, I also look after their Website.  I  currently reside on the Far North Coast of Australia.

Some History....
I was introduced to the world of cavies when I purchased my first pet (at the age of 10, I think!), her name was 'Puinea Gig' she followed me everywhere, literally, had trained her to 'heel' just like a dog. Anyway she lived to a ripe old age of 5 and then passed peacefully in her sleep.

I then bought a pair of pets from a local breeder, that's where I first saw pedigreed cavies, Black Dalmatians and instantly fell in love with them. The breeder didn't have any  for sale then but to call back soon.....a year later after my pair of pets had grown to a small herd of about 30, I decided to 'get serious'  and I bought  a trio, a black boar, a black Dalmatian sow and a black sow - breeding quality only, but I didnt know that at the time  lol - and I named them Blackgold, Korytar and Tasker, respectively, I then joined a club the closest being in Brisbane, 3+ hours away, and registered my Stud, I decided on Blackgold, after my first stud boar.  Many years later I'm still involved, older and I hope a little wiser!!

I achieved one of my goals, that of getting a Best In Show with one of my Dalmatians,  Blackgold Howzat, it took a number of years, but from what I started with I think I'm doing Ok, and I'm quite proud that I did it with my breeding and only Australian bloodlines, no imported stock.

As my involvement in the Fancy increased, my family - specifically my Mum! became interested also, we registered a Stud in partnership, 'Sayyide' Cavies. We have anywhere between 80 to 120 cavies in the caviary, depending on how successful the breeding season has been lol.

Currently....

Blackgold Cavies breed
Dalmatians
Self Chocolates
Self Creams
Argentes in gold/lilac and gold/beige
Sayyide Cavies breed
Self Lilacs
Chocolate Agoutis
Cinnamon Agoutis

My new venture into Argentes has proven successful in both the breeding pen and the show arena. When I purchased the Argentes, they had come from lines that had been bred together, by that I mean the two different base colours, so the very first thing I did was to separate the colours, bred lilac to lilac and beige to beige, I did that for a number of generations. I decided my next step was to breed for the ticking, I felt that even tho the Standard here in Australia gives equal importance to depth of colour, that the colour was relatively easier to improve on than the Ticking and could be worked on further down the track. So at the moment, I am breeding for better ticking, My aim is to have Argentes that have the same quality of ticking that the Agoutis enjoy, presently the majority of Argentes here in Australia look like Goldens with either Lilac or Beige undercolour.

In the show arena, my Argentes, both breeds are doing well, I dont expect the big awards, not for awhile anyway lol, at the 2004 National, my gold/lilac argente boar Blackgold 'Axle'  won his Best of Breed and my gold/beige argentes were both well placed in their classes - the comment there they both lacked the richness of colour, but the ticking was very good.

With my other breeds in both studs, I have had to let them take the back seat so to speak, and have only done a few matings as I have had to do a lot of matings and concentrate on the Argentes to get them to where they are now, I can now slow up a bit with them and resume with the others.

Ok..I think that is enough tooting my own horn lol...please explore the website, it will be a mixture of new and old, I have done away with the guestbooks, if you like my efforts here and want to make a comment or even ask questions, please feel free to email me! Also, I like nice neat simple, websites nothing fancy with coding, scripts  or plugins so I have kept this as basic as I can  hehehehe nothing to tax my brain!
