This post card was submitted by one of the members in our group, Tom Robison, to whom I thank and appreciate for sharing it. I knew when I read it, that I had to post it for others to read. I was personally touched by it and thought others might be too.

This is a verbatum text of a postcard from Perry Behymer, eldest son of William Behymer(son of Solomon Behymer, grandson of Jonathon Behymer) to J. O. Behymer (John Oliver) who was the editor of the Tipton (Ind) Daily Times Newspaper, concerning the impending death of their father. William died just a few hours after this card was written.

This card was postmarked "P.M. Aug 25" (1890).

Rigdon, Ind...(unintelligible)...

6:05 am. Father passed a hardnight...(unintelligible)... night at about 12 he lost all consciousness and has been in that condition ever since. We have hourly expected his death. The poor fellow has suffered wonderfully. He can't talk and is past swallowing. We thought several times he would not be able to rally, but he has contested every inch of the ground, and may, with his wonderful vital forces last through the day and yet he may die at any time. He seems past medical aid and all that can be done is to let the disease and nature fight it out. Should the end come will telegraph you as soon as can do so.

Yours Truly

Perry Behymer
