DIED
At the residence of his son, Mr. J. W. Teddlie, William James Teddlie, who was born in the state of Georgia on the 8th of February, 1827, and died on December 20th, 1907, being 80 years, 10 months, and 12 days old at his death.
Uncle Buck, as he was familiarly known in this section, has lived here since 1857 except that period he was in the Confederate Army. He enlisted in Company F, 27th Louisiana Volunteer Infantry and remained with that famous regiment taking part in all of their campaigns until, at the end, he came home and resumed his favorite pursuit, farming, following that until a short time before his death. He was initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry, soon after the war, in Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 and has kept his membership until the final call to the celestial lodge above. He was twice married and of these unions there were seven children; all of whom survive him-Messrs. Chas. Teddlie of Gately, E. W. Teddlie of St. Maurice, Mrs. M. E. Jackson of Montgomery, and Mrs. Ella Magee of this city, represent the children by the first marriage. His first wife was a Miss Mathis. His second wife, who also preceded him to the grave, was a Miss Page and the children of that marriage are Mr. John W. Teddlie, the efficient deputy sheriff of Winn; Mrs. John Aldridge of St. Maurice, and Miss Cora, who lives in Winnfield.
He was buried by Eastern Star Lodge No. 151, with all the solemnity and impressiveness of that beautiful ritual at the Jerusalem Cemetery, four miles west of Winnfield, where his second wife was buried. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the body to the last resting place.

Church Leaders
Church mourns passing of hymn writer, Bible prof
OKLAHOMA CITY-Two prominent church leaders died last month: Tillit S.
Teddlie, well-known hymn writer, and LeMoine G. Lewis, longtime Bible professor.
Teddlie, a prolific hymn writer who began each morning with a recital of the books
of the Bible and a litany of U.S. presidents, died Aug. 17 at a nursing home in Gunter,
Texas. He was 102.
Teddlie composed 135 gospel songs and published 14 songbooks. Among his best
known are "Worthy Art Thou", "We Shall Meet Some Day", "Heven Holds All to
Me", In the Service of My King" and "Into Our Hands the Gospel is Given".
"Teddlie wrote songs on many subjects, but we can be especially grateful that he
repeatedly magnified Jesus Christ the Saviour," said Harold Fletcher, professor of
music at Oklahoma Christian College, Oklahoma City. "Some of the phrases have
come to have virtually the same force and appeal as passages of Scripture."
"There is no way to know how long his writings will survive. These sincere texts
with music have already been indelibly impressed on the hearts of literally thousands,"
he said.
"He, L.O. Sanderson and more like them have already joined the Fillmores, Love
Jameson and others in the honor roll of our church song writers," said Fletcher.
His first song, "I've Waited Too Long," was written in 1906. The song was
inspired by a story he told in a sermon of an unbeliever dying of pneumonia. The man
begged his physician, "Tell my friends I've waited too long to prepare, but you have
time." "What Will Your Answer Be?" was his first hymn to be published by Stamps
Baxter Company.
"It's born in you," Teddlie once told his friends. "If you're full of music, you'll want
to write songs."
Teddlie directed singing schools across the country for 50 years. He led singing
for more than 100 preachers and for two years sang only with Foy E. Wallace, Jr. as
he conducted meetings across the country.
Born June 3, 1885, in Swan, Texas, Teddlie was also a gospel preacher, serving as
local minister for churches in Electra, Vernon, Belton, Ennis and Greenville, Texas.
He served as superintendent of Boles Home in Quinlan, Texas, for two years.
In 1985 he attracted media attention in Dalls when he was featured on a local
television program. A special program honoring his music also was conducted at the
Prestoncrest Church of Christ, Dallas. More than 1,200 well-wishers gathered to pay
tribute to Teddlie and sing his songs.
Teddlie sang every word of every song for three hours, according to Hulen L.
Jackson, Duncanville, Texas. Forgetting he had a microphone on, the audience heard
him comment, "Too high," when a leader began one of his songs.
The funeral was conducted Aug. 20 at the Skillman Avenue Church of Christ,
Dallas, where he was a member. Stanley Lockhart and Max Wheeler conducted
congregational singing, and Mike Armour, Skillman minister, and Jackson delivered
eulogies.
Survivors include one son, Pete Teddlie of Dallas: one grandaughter, four
great-grandsons; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Obituary of Rev. William James Teddlie (Date Unknown)
Bunkie, La. William James Teddlie was born July 4, 1845, near Curthburt, Ga., from the union of William Edward Teddlie and Sarah Ann Johnson. At the age of 10 he moved with his family and relatives to Winn Parish, Louisiana, locating on the present site of the rock quarry and salt mines, about four miles from Winnfield. Here he grew to manhood and in 1863 enlisted in the war between the states, joining the twenty-third Louisiana regiment, Feb. 23, 1864. (Note: this is in error, Mr. Teddlie was in the 27th La. Inf., not the 23rd.- GED) (GED is Greg Davies, Winn Parish Chief Deputry Sheriff and a historian of Winn Parish, LA)
He married Frances Adeline Bellamy, daughter of a Methodist minister. To this union six children were born of whom only two survive: John F. Teddlie, Fort Worth, Texas, and Mrs. Thomas E. Mixon, Bunkie, La.
His father had given the land near their home for a church and graveyard. At the age of 21 in this church, "Old Jerusalem", Brother Teddlie was converted and received into church membership, being baptized by Rev. Dan Kelly.
In his early married life he moved to Texas on account of his family's health and there he answered the call to preach. He hesitated because of the sore-felt need of education which he had foregone when he chose to go to war with his young friends instead of the Mt. Lebanon [College] where his father had arranged for him to go to college. His first attempt to preach was at old North Church near Nacogdoches, Texas, substituting for the revivalist who was unable to come. The only convert at this meeting was his own son, William, a lad of 15, who died shortly after. He was pastor of several churches in Louisiana, among which were Montgomery, Hargis, Calvin, Pine Grove, and Fairfield.
Age and disease dimmed his mind in his last days, but the day that Jesus washed his sins away grew brighter and brighter, almost his last conscious effort being to sing, "Oh, Happy Day."
