I am looking for information on a Rev. War vet named James THAXTON.
He drew land in a lottery on 3 February, 1804 as a resident of Oglethorpe County. He is also found in the tax records of Oglethorpe County for the years: 1805, 1810, and 1815. Sometime before 1827 he settled in Greene County (and is buried there), and appears in the 1830 census as a resident of Greene County, aged 60-70 at that time. I am not clear if his status as a resident of Greene County implies an actual physical move, or if county boundary changes between Oglethorpe and Greene make it appear that way. It appears he had a son named James THAXTON, Jr., also of Greene County, and perhaps another son (Simeon THAXTON), but I am unaware of his spouse's
name and of any other children. I aim to clarify James THAXTON's relationship to other VA THAXTONs who settled in GA, namely Charles THAXTON, Yelverton THAXTON, and Thomas THAXTON, all brothers, and sons of William and Lucy (CLAY) THAXTON. Any information anyone can share would be most appreciated.
Thanks. Christy Jordan-Frank

I'd welcome any information about a Sarah ROBINS/ROBBINS, probably born around 1797, in Georgia or Virginia. She is listed as the head of household on GA censuses between 1830-1850 in first Greene and later Talbot Counties. In 1850, a John age 15 is also listed. She may have had a daughter
older than John, who was also named Sarah and who married a Daniel RAY and lived in East Texas by 1851. Any tidbits greatly appreciated! (The elder Sarah and/or her husband were at least half-blood Cherokee.)

I am interested in any data on the GAAR or GREER families of GA. A Francis Marbury Greer b 1794 in Greene cty married Permilia Gaar
in Morgan Cty in 1924 and settled in Meriweather Cty. It appears that the Greer family came to Ga in the mid-1700's but that the Gaar family may not have arrived until the early 1800's. It appears that an early Gaar was Michael who had several children including Joel who had several. The Gaar names appear in various documents that I have found in Elbert, Morgan & Greene Counties. An Adam Gaar Sr and Jr appear to be closely related to this group. I am particularly interested in cemetery records to get
birth and death dates as well as any other data available. More data on my own research on these names as well as Owen, Avery, Colvin, Odom and other is on my homepage located in Baton Rouge at http://www.meocpa.com
