The base of the creation of the
Argentine Dogo was the Old Fighting Dog of Córdoba. In Córdoba,
city of the Argentine, in last century and until the beginnings
of the present, they were very in vogue the combats of dogs. An
inherited tradition of the time of the colony that had rooted
strongly in this country. For this combats a mixture of Spanish
Mastiff was used with Bullterrier, when not of pure or blended
Bullterrier with the English Bulldog. There was also at the
beginning of century a certain infusion of blood Boxer.
Of that mixture of blood it was
being formed, for natural selection, the type of fighting dog
that we will call Old Fighting Dog of Córdoba, extraordinary
animal for the combat, of value and tremendous resistance for the
fight; they died fighting, they didn't never avoid the encounter,
but they lacked smell and speed and their ferocity for their
congenerics the useless turned for the hunt, since they fought
among them and it was impossible to hunt with two or more and
less in pack.
But this primitive race had in
yes two primitive and essential qualities. An excellent ancestral
inheritance: Mastiff, Bullterrier, English Bulldog, Boxer; and a
great functional gymnastics, since the rude combats to those that
were subjected of generation in generation, were increasing more
and more their original courage.
To this dog that was almost
always white and some with stains, were been giving in different
currents of blood, to avoid the consanguinity, the contribution
of the different races that they would give our Argentine Dogo as
a result.
