"Again" came over Sam's Spring Break, March 1st to the 8th, when he and Emma drove cross-country to see Connie and me. We had an entire, wonderful week together, where we were able to go to the movies, out to dinner, window-shopping, and even to Kansas City to see "Phantom of the Opera," which was my treat to him for his birthday later that month.
Going out to do things together was fun, but being able to just stay 'home' and talk and be together was just about my favorite part of the visit (a close second to Phantom). We spent the daytimes Monday through Wednesday just talking and playing games. I got beat at backgammon and Monopoly (tm), but I held my own in You Don't Know Jack, and we played a little AfterLife, too. So much for staying off of the computer... *chuckle* Thursday afternoon, we headed to Kansas City to see Phantom, and Friday, we spent a few hours at the Independence Center mall, just outside of KC.
Sam and Emma had to head back to school on Saturday, and goodbyes were much harder this time. They left around noon, and Connie and I went to mope, and not much more than half an hour later, we heard someone pull back in the drive. They'd gone the opposite direction to get the car filled with gas, and decided to stop for one last goodbye before making the trip back to Blacksburg. Knowing we would see each other again in just 6 weeks made things a little easier, but after spending so long together, it was hard to be apart again, and I miss him more than before.
Our visit in April is just around the corner though, and we will be able to spend another four days together. Sam has classes, and schoolwork to be done, but at least we will have some time together, and I will get to see the Virginia Tech campus, where he is going to school.
Four days doesn't seem like much of a visit now, but time together is good, no matter how short or long it may be. Already we are making plans for this summer. Sam will be doing co-op work in Maryland, and so I will be able to spend a few weeks with him at a time. My first visit is planned for the middle of June. *smile*
