Hello and welcome to the first issue of
the F.A.I.T.H Newsletter. My name is Karen and I
will be writing articles for you concerning
homicide survivors. I hope to bring helpful
and useful information to you on a number of
topics concerning victims of homicide. To begin,
I'd like to give you a little of my background.
I am a mother of two sons, one of whom was
murdered May 12th 1998. He was my oldest son and
he was 25 years old. He was killed in his own home. I
was the one who found him a day later. This has pro-
foundly changed my life. One minute I was an average
homemaker and mother, the next, my world was
shattered.
The first thing I realized was, I had 2 choices. One,
I could
give up, or two, I could fight back. I chose to fight.
Since
that terrible day, I have become active in Victims
Rights. It
is one way I can honor my son and all others who lose
their
lives in this most devastating way.
I also found that online support groups were to be my
life savers. There are so many compassionate and
supportive
groups out there. Someone is always available to help
you
through the hardest times. There is also much
valuable
information on the right's of victims. There is
information
on new legislation that is passed. The easiest way to
keep
current on new laws is via the Internet.
With the articles I will write, I will bring
information
to you, on where to find the help you need. I will
also have
other homicide survivors share their experiences with
us. I
will review many online support groups to find the
most
helpful and informative. Finally, this will be our
newsletter,
so I will appreciate feedback and suggestions from our
readers. I look forward to writing for you and I hope
that
you will look forward to receiving your newsletter
every
month.
