My Special One

He feels different somehow, He knows he's not the same,

He stands from afar, and watches the children play their games,

He can't understand, He's not invited to play,

Lord, I pray that He will fit in some day.

The way that He acts is not from his heart,

But He knows it has caused alot of friends to part,

What must He do for us to understand,

He's just a little boy and needs a guiding hand,

Can't you see him hiding behind the trees?,

He's scared of the scolding, but can't set himself free.

He tries and He tries but can't overcome,

The anxious feeling inside that just makes him run,

His behavior can be atrocious at times,

But its such a struggle for him to unwind,

Can you not look through this child's outer shell,

And reach down inside and feel his hell.

At times He knows not what he does,

He just tries so hard to win your love.

Love is the only way that He will let you close

I should know I'm his Grandma and I love him the most,

Please don't turn your back on this little man,

All he needs is for you to understand,

He has a place in this world, and such a need to fit in

It might take someone like you to help him win.

It's a hard battle he fights and it gets harder each day,

Can't you reach out for him and help show him the way.

Most people look at him as though he were on trial,

When all the time he's searching the crowd for a friendly smile,

Are we so perfect that we can not see,

This child is in his own prison and there is just one key.

It's so hard for him to explain just how he feels,

But he does understand that a little pill can calm and

keep him still,

It's not for lack of discipline or guidance,

even though this is your belief,

This child was born with a disability and he should not

carry your grief,

He tries so hard to win your love, and sometimes in trying he

pushes and shoves.

You may not understand the way he tries to gain your attention,

And I know that it angers you and causes you tension,

Please hold your temper, He doesn't mean to be bad,

And when you raise your voice and hands it only makes him sad,

It's through your loving touch and patient concern,

That this child will ever grow and learn.

He's reaching out for you the only way He knows how,

Will you turn your back and throw in the towel.

It takes not just love alone but a compelling passion,

To see through this little boy's destructive actions.

Maybe now you can see He's not like you and me,

For every morning he wakes He struggles to be free,

You see this is how he became My Special One.

I'll be his voice in whatever it takes,

To help this little one successfully win his race,

How many disappointments must this child bear,

Before he's able to reach your heart and show you how

much he cares,

Though this little boy I speak of is my grandson,

Through his cries, all the Worlds Children become one.

This makes it the responsibility of us all,

To look after those among us that are so small...
